Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager Backend to lead and scale our backend engineering teams responsible for building Scapia's core financial systems and APIs.
This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic decision-making, ensuring the delivery of reliable, secure, and scalable backend platforms powering our fintech products.
You will work closely with product, design, and leadership teams to shape the technical roadmap and drive engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow multiple teams of backend engineers.
- Set the technical vision and architecture for scalable backend systems.
- Drive best practices in system design, reliability, security, and performance.
Platform & Architecture
- Design and deliver highly scalable distributed systems and APIs.
- Own backend architecture decisions and technology choices.
- Ensure high availability, observability, and performance of services.
Product Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Data, Risk, and Business teams to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Contribute to product roadmap planning and engineering execution.
Team Building & People Management
- Hire, mentor, and develop high-performing engineers.
- Conduct career development planning, feedback, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and engineering excellence.
Delivery & Execution
- Manage project timelines, priorities, and technical risks.
- Drive efficient execution while maintaining high quality standards.
- Continuously improve engineering processes, tooling, and developer productivity.
AI & Intelligent Systems
- Collaborate with Data and AI teams to enable AI-powered capabilities within backend services.
- Build backend infrastructure that supports AI-driven features such as personalization, recommendation engines, fraud detection, and intelligent automation.
- Integrate LLM-based systems, AI APIs, or internal ML models into product workflows where relevant.
- Enable secure and scalable data pipelines and feature platforms for machine learning use cases.
Profile:
- 1014 years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management.
- Strong experience designing distributed backend systems at scale.
- Expertise in microservices architecture and API design.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Strong understanding of databases, system design, and performance optimization.
- Proven experience building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
- Experience working in fintech, payments, lending, or financial platforms.
- Strong understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy in financial systems.
- Experience in startup or high-growth environments.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and modern backend frameworks.
