Senior Engineering Manager – Digital Engineering

Experience: 15+ Years

Location: Bangalore (Hybrid – minimum 2 days/week in office) with occasional travel to Innover/client locations.

Role Overview

The Senior Engineering Manager – Digital Engineering will lead end-to-end software delivery for one or more enterprise client accounts. This is a hands-on engineering leadership role requiring deep software development expertise, strong technical leadership, and proven experience managing distributed engineering teams across complex engagements.

Reporting to the Delivery Director or Studio Delivery Leader, the role is responsible for engineering execution excellence across architecture, development, quality, releases, and client delivery. The individual will also drive adoption of AI-enabled software development practices, leveraging AI coding assistants, intelligent engineering tools, and Innover accelerators to improve productivity, quality, and delivery outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have progressed through a strong software engineering career, managed large development teams and multi-track portfolios, and possess the ability to engage effectively with both technical teams and client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Software Delivery Leadership

  • Own end-to-end software development delivery across multiple client engagements and workstreams.
  • Drive execution across the full SDLC including requirements, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and stabilization.
  • Establish strong delivery governance through sprint planning, backlog management, release planning, retrospectives, and delivery reviews.
  • Ensure software solutions meet functional, non-functional, quality, and client acceptance requirements.
  • Monitor delivery health and proactively address scope, timeline, quality, or resource risks.
  • Maintain delivery dashboards, status reports, risk registers, and milestone tracking.

Technical Engineering Leadership

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across active engagements.
  • Guide architecture decisions, design reviews, technology selection, and engineering best practices.
  • Govern code quality standards, solution reviews, and technical validation checkpoints.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including:
  • Microservices architecture
  • API-first design
  • Event-driven systems
  • Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Serverless architectures where applicable
  • Promote DevOps and CI/CD practices including automated testing, release automation, and shift-left quality.
  • Identify and address technical debt, engineering bottlenecks, and architecture risks.
  • Maintain strong technical credibility across delivery teams and client discussions.

AI-Enabled Software Development

  • Lead adoption of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon CodeWhisperer, and AI-powered engineering solutions.
  • Utilize Innover AI accelerators and frameworks to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Drive AI adoption across:
  • Code generation
  • Automated testing
  • Intelligent code review
  • Documentation generation
  • Requirements analysis
  • Refactoring and debugging
  • Define and track measurable productivity and quality improvements enabled through AI.
  • Coach engineering teams on effective AI tool utilization.
  • Partner with Innover's AI practice to identify innovative AI opportunities within the SDLC.
  • Engage clients on AI-enabled engineering strategies and transformation opportunities.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary engineering delivery contact for client stakeholders including Engineering Managers, Product Owners, Architects, and IT Leaders.
  • Conduct delivery reviews, sprint demos, technical governance meetings, and milestone checkpoints.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations around scope, timelines, priorities, and technical trade-offs.
  • Build trusted client relationships that position Innover as a strategic engineering partner.
  • Escalate major delivery risks when required while maintaining proactive communication.

Governance, Risk & Delivery Excellence

  • Manage portfolio-level delivery, technical, and resource risks.
  • Maintain structured governance around documentation, change requests, approvals, and milestone management.
  • Ensure compliance with delivery standards, contractual obligations, and security requirements.
  • Provide regular reporting on portfolio health, resource utilization, financials, and delivery forecasts.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead distributed engineering teams comprising Architects, Tech Leads, Senior Engineers, and Developers.
  • Drive performance management, coaching, technical mentoring, and career development.
  • Identify skill gaps and partner with leadership and HR on hiring and upskilling initiatives.
  • Build a culture focused on engineering excellence, innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen AI-enabled development capabilities as a core competency within engineering teams.

Presales & Growth Support

  • Support account expansion and new business opportunities through engineering leadership and solutioning.
  • Contribute to technical proposals, effort estimations, solution design, and delivery approaches.
  • Participate in RFP/RFI responses and client solution discussions.
  • Represent Innover's engineering capabilities during presales and transition activities.

Skills & Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of software engineering and digital delivery experience.
  • Minimum 4–5 years leading software engineering teams and delivery portfolios.
  • Strong hands-on software development background with one or more modern technology stacks such as(Java/.Net/Python/Node.js/React/Angular)
  • Proven experience managing enterprise software development programs in an IT services environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Cloud-native architectures
  • Microservices
  • API development
  • Event-driven systems
  • DevOps and CI/CD
  • Automated testing
  • Hands-on exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience leading Agile delivery using Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe frameworks.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and demonstrated interest in driving adoption.
  • Experience managing distributed and hybrid engineering teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing AI-enabled software engineering workflows.
  • Exposure to automated testing, intelligent code review, and AI-driven development practices.
  • Experience in Digital Experience Platforms, Headless Architecture, or E-commerce engineering programs.
  • Domain experience in BFSI, Retail, Healthcare, or Manufacturing.
  • Relevant certifications in Cloud Platforms, Agile, or Engineering specializations.
  • Experience contributing to presales, solutioning, and proposal development.
