We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and scale backend engineering initiatives in a high-growth, data-driven environment. This role involves overseeing architecture, building high-performance distributed systems, and managing engineering teams across global time zones. You will serve as the technical authority on backend development, APIs, and data infrastructure while partnering with business teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions. You will influence system design, mentor engineers, and ensure reliability, performance, and operational excellence across critical services. Accountabilities
- Lead engineering initiatives involving backend APIs, data integrations, and system architecture across global teams.
- Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance, distributed systems with high availability and reliability.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into effective solutions.
- Oversee ERP data connectors, data storage, and pipeline improvements to ensure accurate and accessible datasets.
- Manage system maintenance, iterative upgrades, service governance, and the creation of foundational components.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical oversight and promoting best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the US, Singapore, and China, adapting to global work schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, with 12+ years of overall experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Golang, or Java (Python preferred).
- Proficiency with messaging platforms (Kafka, RMQ, SQS) and relational/NoSQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, etc.).
- Expertise in microservices architecture, API gateways, service observability, and distributed system design.
- Hands-on experience with containerization, orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker), and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
- Proven ability to build and operate high-uptime ( 99.99 %+) systems with strict latency and reliability requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills with experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams and executives.
- Bonus: Knowledge of RPC frameworks (gRPC/Protobuf, Thrift), security best practices, authentication/authorization, and performance tuning for high-traffic systems.
