Role Overview
As the Senior Engineering Manager - Billing, Data & Infrastructure, you will own two essential platform functions:
1. Billing Platform (Accuracy, compliance, finance integrity)
2. Data and Infrastructure Platform (Scale, performance, reliability, cost)
This role requires:
Engineering leadership at org level
Architecture-level influence
Ability to guide complex distributed systems development

Key Responsibilities
Define and drive the technical roadmap for Billing, Data & Infrastructure services at Exotel.
Guide architecture for distributed systems, data pipelines, storage, and observability.
Ensure Billing systems meet accuracy, compliance, and scale requirements.
Own end-to-end billing systems including rating, charging, invoicing, taxation, and reconciliation.
Partner with the CFO's office for financial accuracy, audits, and reporting.
Improve automation, data integrity, and system scalability.
Lead teams managing compute, storage, networking, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
Ensure high availability, performance, and operational excellence.
Drive monitoring, alerting, SLOs, cost optimisation, and deployment automation.
Drive big data architecture, design, deployment and optimisation
Translate strategic goals into clear engineering plans and milestones.
Own delivery timelines, quality, and engineering health metrics.
Establish strong processes for reviews, testing, incident management, and releases.
Build and mentor high-performing engineering teams.
Drive a culture of ownership, learning, and engineering excellence.
Enable growth paths for engineers and leads.
Work closely with Product, CFO's office, Architects, and business leaders.
Communicate priorities, trade-offs, and progress clearly.
Align teams around long-term platform strategy.
Must-Haves
10-14+ years of experience with a deep engineering background in backend or distributed systems.
3-5+ years of engineering leadership (people + delivery).
Proven success in leading high-scale infrastructure, platform, or distributed system teams.
Strong experience with Billing/financial systems or data integrity-critical systems.
Ability to drive architecture, influence senior technical leaders, and guide complex designs.
Experience working with cloud-native technologies and modern DevOps practices.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership.
Good-to-Haves
Experience with data infrastructure: pipelines, analytics frameworks, distributed databases.
Exposure to AI/ML for anomaly detection, automation, or optimisation.
Experience in telecom/CPaaS/payments or other high-availability domains.
Deep understanding of systems reliability (SLOs, SLAs, capacity, performance engineering).
Hands-on experience with optimizing cloud cost, infra automation, or internal platform services.
