Position Title: Senior Engineer Railway Ballastless Track Work

JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to lead the design, engineering analysis, and execution of railway ballastless track projects across India. The ideal candidate will be responsible for comprehensive design calculations, technical feasibility assessments, and on-site construction oversight, ensuring strict adherence to Indian Railway standards and international best practices. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects on schedule and within budget.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design & Engineering Analysis
- Lead detailed design calculations for ballastless track systems, including structural analysis, load distribution, and foundation design using engineering software (STAAD Pro, SAP2000, AutoCAD).
- Conduct geotechnical investigations and prepare technical specifications for track foundation, concrete slab design, and material selection.
- Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ), cost estimates, and technical drawings in compliance with Indian Railway Standards and RDSO specifications.
- Perform structural and geometric design verification, ensuring compliance with track alignment, gradients, and curve specifications.
- Evaluate alternative design solutions and recommend cost-effective, sustainable approaches.
Project Planning & Execution
- Lead and manage the complete design and execution of railway ballastless track projects from conception through commissioning.
- Conduct comprehensive site assessments, feasibility studies, and baseline surveys to inform project planning and resource allocation.
- Prepare detailed project schedules, resource plans, and risk management strategies.
- Coordinate with railway authorities, RDSO, and stakeholders for approvals and clearances.
Site Supervision & Quality Control
- Oversee construction activities, providing on-site technical guidance and resolving engineering challenges in real-time.
- Conduct quality audits, material testing, and compliance inspections at all project stages.
- Ensure adherence to Indian Railway standards, IS Codes, and contractual quality requirements.
- Manage safety protocols and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate effectively with surveyors, structural designers, geotechnical engineers, and labour contractors.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, progress documentation, and submit regular updates to project stakeholders.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and site staff.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Cost & Resource Management
- Monitor project budgets, manage change orders, and optimize resource utilization.
- Prepare variation orders and handle contractual claims with supporting technical documentation.
- Maintain project archives and ensure timely submission of all technical records.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (mandatory)
- Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Railway Engineering (preferred)
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in railway infrastructure projects, with substantial focus on ballastless track systems.
- Proven expertise in design calculations, structural analysis, and track geometry design.
- Hands-on experience in project cost estimation, BOQ preparation, and budget management.
- Demonstrated experience in leading on-site construction teams and managing contractor coordination.
Technical Competencies
- Design & Analysis: Proficiency in structural design calculations, geotechnical analysis, and finite element modeling (FEM).
- Software Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (for track drawing and design layouts)
- Strong command of STAAD Pro or similar structural analysis software
- Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills for cost analysis and project tracking
- Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar)
- Standards & Codes: In-depth knowledge of:
- Indian Railway Standards (IRS) for track and ballastless systems
- Railway Board specifications and RDSO guidelines
- Relevant Indian Standards (IS Codes) for civil and structural design
- AREMA or international railway engineering standards (preferred)
Domain Knowledge
- Strong understanding of ballastless track technology, including slab design, fastening systems, and drainage requirements.
- Knowledge of different ballastless track systems
- Familiarity with railway ballast systems and traditional track construction for comparative analysis.
- Understanding of train dynamics, axle loads, and their impact on track design.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Strong project management and multitasking capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi.
- Leadership qualities with ability to mentor junior engineers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- GATE qualification or relevant professional certifications (e.g., ASCE, IEI).
- Experience with high-speed rail (HSR) or metro rail projects.
- Exposure to BIM (Building Information Modelling) or digital engineering tools.
- Previous experience with international railway standards or global projects.
- Publications or presentations in railway engineering forums.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Travel Requirement: Frequent travel to project sites across India (20-30% of time).
- Work Environment: Mix of office-based design work and on-site field supervision.
- Physical Demands: Ability to inspect sites, navigate uneven terrain, and work in diverse weather conditions.
