Position: SMT Process Engineering (Deputy Manager/ Manager)
Responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining all SMT (Surface Mount Technology) processes in PCB Assembly. The role ensures high-quality, cost-effective, and repeatable manufacturing by controlling process parameters, introducing new products, eliminating defects, and improving productivity.
Key Responsibilities
A. Process Setup & Control
- Develop and maintain SMT production processes including screen printing, solder paste application, pick-and-place, reflow profiling, AOI, SPI, and wave/selective soldering (if applicable).
- Create and optimize reflow oven profiles for various solder pastes and PCB assemblies.
- Define process parameters and SOPs.
- Set up and validate SMT programs on machines (Panasonic, Juki).
- Processes of Router, Conformal coating, ICT
B. NPD (New Product Development)
- Lead NPD activities related to SMT, including DFx review (DFM, DFA).
- Validate BOM, Gerber, centroid files, and stencil designs.
- Conduct first article inspection (FAI) and support pilot builds.
- Coordinate with R&D, Projects, and Quality teams for smooth product launch.
C. Quality & Defect Reduction
- Analyse defects using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto.
- Reduce SMT-related issues: solder bridges, tombstoning, insufficient solder, component shift, voids, opens, etc.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean).
D. Equipment Management
- Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of SMT equipment:
- Evaluate equipment capability and drive upgrades when required.
- Collaborate with suppliers for maintenance, calibration, and technology updates.
E. Documentation & Compliance
