Overview
Migration of a client's legacy system from Sybase ASE to Microsoft SQL Server, on premises, with no change to business functionality.
The system consists of a Sybase database with many stored procedures, a PowerBuilder desktop application, and a set of Java applications and batch jobs on top of it.
Responsibilities
- Convert stored procedures, triggers and views from Sybase T-SQL to SQL Server T-SQL, keeping the same behavior.
- Fix the code that does not convert automatically, and the differences in behavior between the two databases.
- Update the PowerBuilder application and the Java applications to work with SQL Server.
- Test and compare the old and new systems to confirm that the results are the same.
- Work with the client's technical team on site, and with the offshore team on daily delivery.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience with databases and back-end development.
- Hands-on experience with Sybase and MSSQL, for schema, query & server.
- Strong T-SQL - able to read and rewrite long, complex stored procedures.
- Experience with Java or PowerBuilder application development.
Nice to have
- Experience in a previous database migration project.
- PowerBuilder, especially Data Windows.
- Java / Spring Boot, or WebLogic.
- Python or shell scripting.
- Linux.
