Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Experience : 8 - 10 Yrs

Location : Mumbai

Designation : Senior Embryologist

Responsibilities:

  1. IVF Laboratory Procedures
  • Perform and supervise all IVF lab procedures including: Oocyte identification, grading, and handling
  • Sperm preparation and processing
  • ICSI procedures
  • IVF insemination
  • Embryo culture monitoring and grading
  • Embryo transfer preparation and loading
  • Cryopreservation and thawing (oocytes, embryos, sperm)
  • Embryo biopsy assistance (if applicable)

Ensure proper handling of gametes and embryos with utmost accuracy and care.

2. Lab Quality Control & Compliance

  • Maintain IVF lab standards as per regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
  • Ensure daily QC checks for: Incubators
  • Gas levels (CO₂ / O₂)
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Media preparation and validation
  • Cryotank monitoring
  • Witnessing and labeling accuracy

Ensure proper documentation of all lab procedures and maintain traceability logs.

3. Lab Planning & Cycle Coordination

  • Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and care navigators for: OPU scheduling
  • ET planning
  • Cryo-thaw scheduling
  • Procedure preparation timelines

Ensure smooth workflow for procedures and optimize lab time and resources.

4. Embryo Reporting & Clinical Coordination

  • Prepare accurate embryo development reports for patients and doctors.
  • Participate in clinical decision-making discussions regarding: Day of embryo transfer (D3 vs D5)
  • Freezing decisions
  • Embryo selection for transfer

Communicate updates clearly and ethically, ensuring realistic expectations.

5. Lab Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Maintain lab inventory of consumables, media, disposables, and cryo supplies.
  • Ensure timely procurement and prevent stock-outs.
  • Monitor equipment servicing schedules and coordinate calibration and AMC requirements.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of critical lab materials.

  • Patient Safety & Ethical Standards
  • Ensure all lab processes follow strict patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical handling of all patient samples.
  • Ensure double witnessing and minimize risk of mismatch at all stages.
  • Follow best practices to maintain embryo viability and outcomes.

  • Team Leadership & Training
  • Supervise and mentor junior embryologists, lab technicians, and interns.
  • Train staff on: Lab SOPs
  • Safety protocols
  • Equipment handling
  • Documentation practices
  • Conduct internal audits, skill assessments, and corrective training sessions.

  • SOP Development & Audit Readiness
  • Maintain and update IVF lab SOPs as per latest protocols and internal standards.
  • Support NABH / ISO / internal audits as required.
  • Ensure incident reporting, CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions), and root-cause analysis when needed.

Qualifications:

  • MSc in Clinical Embryology / Biotechnology / Life Sciences (or relevant specialization)
  • 8–10 years of IVF lab experience, with proven expertise in:
  • ICSI
  • Embryo culture and grading
  • Cryopreservation (vitrification & warming)
  • Certification in Clinical Embryology is preferred
  • Registered / eligible as per ART regulations and clinic compliance norms
  • Experience in handling high-volume cycles is a strong advantage
