Job Description Senior Electrical Engineer (BESS)

Role Title: Senior Electrical Engineer Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Location: Bangalore, India

Team: Electrical Engineering

Reports to: Manager Electrical Engineering

Role Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer with strong technical expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support the design, development, and deployment of nextgeneration energy storage solutions. This role requires deep knowledge of AC/DC power systems, system studies, component sizing, and compliance with global electrical standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fastpaced engineering environment, collaborating closely with crossfunctional teams to deliver robust and scalable designs.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical System Engineering

  • Lead electrical design and integration efforts for utilityscale BESS applications.
  • Develop system architecture, protection concepts, and interface requirements across AC and DC domains.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, firmware, and system engineering teams to ensure endtoend design cohesion.
  • Prepare and review key engineering deliverables including, Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Schematics and wiring diagrams, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, Cable schedules, cable harness layouts, and routing plans
  • Ensure design packages meet quality, safety, and manufacturability requirements through all project phases.

Component Selection & Sizing

  • Perform technical sizing and selection of electrical components including, Switchgear, breakers, fuses, and disconnects, Busbars and distribution equipment, LV/HV AC components and DC subsystem components, Transformers, auxiliary loads, and power conditioning equipment.
  • Review vendor specifications, conduct technical evaluations, and support procurement decisions.

Auxiliary Systems & BoM Management

  • Design auxiliary electrical systems including transformer selection, auxiliary distribution, and control/power wiring strategies.
  • Prepare accurate Electrical Bills of Materials (BoM) and maintain documentation throughout design iterations.

System Studies & Analysis

  • Perform AC and DC arcflash studies, shortcircuit analysis, and system modelling using MATLAB and other analysis platforms.
  • Support protection coordination, load flow studies, grounding system evaluation, and overall system safety assessments.

Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering activities adhere to applicable electrical standards and codes such as: NFPA, NEC, IEC, and UL
  • Drive compliance, safety, and best practices throughout design and testing cycles.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience, with strong exposure to BESS, renewable energy, or power systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and associated design tools.
  • Strong understanding of AC/DC topologies, grounding schemes, and electrical protection systems.
  • Handson experience with MATLAB for system studies (arcflash, shortcircuit, protection evaluation).
  • Familiarity with global electrical codes: NFPA 70/70E, NEC, IEC standards, UL certification requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with utilityscale ESS, microgrids, or renewable power plants.
  • Knowledge of PCS, BMS, and systemlevel interface requirements.
  • Experience working in product development, manufacturing, or field deployment environments.
