Senior Editor

Encyclopædia Britannica is looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable, digital-first writer and editor who will be responsible for Britannica's coverage of topics across assigned discipline clusters.

Britannica is singularly proud of its 254-year history as a publisher and disseminator of knowledge for students as well as lifelong learners.

Our mission now is to reach learners where they live online and to engage with them in the multitude of ways people learn, including through visually driven storytelling.

Demonstrable editorial and writing skills as well as subject matter expertise are essential for this role. Expertise in geography, history, chemistry, or engineering is preferred but is not a requirement. The ideal candidate will also have the curiosity and enthusiasm to reach beyond

their area of expertise, create content about topics that may not be immediately familiar, and be energized by sharing what they know and what they've learned with Britannica's audience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leading and mentoring a group of editors, reviewing their work and helping them plan and execute their work.

Planning, in partnership with colleagues, contributors, and advisers, how Britannica can expand and maintain its coverage of the assigned discipline clusters and related subject areas.

Editing, writing, and commissioning articles that reflect current developments in these subject areas, as well as creating other types of content for Britannica.com.

Collaborating with media editors and illustrators on the acquisition and production of images, videos, and other media.

Collaborating with various teams at Britannica and external stakeholders such as subject experts and freelancers.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have significant writing and editing experience. Please include links to at least three appropriate writing samples with your application.

Applicants should have a master's degree or a Ph.D.; a bachelor degree with professional experience and broad contacts will be considered a substitute.

The ideal applicant will have more than 6 years work experience relevant to this role.
