In this role, you will have the opportunity to enable the organization to make the right decisions about the integrated ABB enterprise architecture landscape. You will ensure coherent, enterprise-wide direction across business functional domains (e.g., Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, Service). Each day, you will provide architectural leadership, guidance, and support that will enable functional autonomy while preventing fragmentation, duplication, and architectural drift in a decentralized organization. This role operates at enterprise scale, arbitrating trade-offs across functions, platforms, and delivery units to ensure long-term business and technology sustainability. The role will primarily oversee the domain architecture for Legal & Integrity, HR and Finance, and will have input into other functional domains. It has three people reporting into it.

The work model for the role is: #LinkedIn_hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Enterprise Functional Architecture Direction
    • Defining and maintaining the enterprise functional architecture vision and target state.
    • Translating business strategy into functional capability-based architectures.
    • Ensuring consistent interpretation of enterprise principles across all functional domains.
    • Guiding evolution of core business systems in alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Cross-Functional Coherence & Trade-Offs
    • Ensuring architectural coherence across functional domains, platforms, and geographies.
    • Resolving conflicts between functional requirements and enterprise constraints.
    • Balancing global vs local process ownership, standardization vs differentiation, SaaS vs customization.
    • Acting as the final escalation point for cross-functional architectural decisions.
  • Architecture Guardrails & Reference Architectures
    • Defining enterprise-wide functional architecture principles and guardrails.
    • Establishing reference architecture for core enterprise systems (e.g., ERP-centric landscapes), functional platforms and shared services and integration of functional and digital capabilities.
  • Governance & Decision Authority
  • Defining and evolving decision rights for functional architecture topics.
  • Contributing to Architecture Review Boards (ARB) for functional initiatives.
  • Approving or rejecting architectural exceptions impacting enterprise functional coherence.
  • Guiding investment decisions related to functional platforms and transformations.
  • Leadership of Domain Architects
  • Enterprise Transformation Enablement
    • Supporting major enterprise initiatives and partnering with other Enterprise Architects to align functional roadmaps to business capabilities and to make sure that transformations are architecture-led, not vendor- or project-led.

Qualifications for the role

  • 12-15+ years in enterprise or domain architecture roles
  • Deep experience across one or more major business functional domains ideally from large, decentralized, or federated enterprises
  • Experience leading architecture in major enterprise transformations
  • Strong SAP knowledge, ERP- and platform-centric architectures
  • Expertise in functional capability modeling, business process harmonization, SaaS and packaged application landscapes, cross-domain dependency management, and architecture governance at enterprise scale
  • Strong executive communication and storytelling skills
  • Ability to arbitrate complex trade-offs pragmatically
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and scale
