Job Description

Job Summary: As the Senior Director of Engineering - AdTech, Retail, you will define and lead the technology strategy for a large-scale retail media advertising platform serving brands, sellers, and commerce businesses.

You will build platforms that enable advertisers to reach high-intent consumers across retail and commerce journeys through sponsored products, display advertising, audience targeting, off-platform media, measurement, and optimization.

The role spans the complete advertising lifecycle - from campaign creation and audience selection to ad serving, bidding, attribution, reporting, and advertiser billing. This is a senior engineering leadership role requiring deep expertise in advertising technology, distributed systems, data platforms, and engineering organization design. You will lead a multi-disciplinary organization of engineering leaders, software engineers, data engineers, and machine learning practitioners to build scalable and intelligent systems that deliver measurable outcomes for advertisers and retail partners.

About the team: Retail AdTech is focused on building a unified retail advertising platform that helps commerce businesses monetize their digital surfaces and first-party data. The platform will power advertising across search results, product listings, category pages, storefronts, recommendations, and other commerce experiences. It will support multiple advertising formats, including sponsored products, sponsored brands, display ads, video ads, and off-platform campaigns

.The team will build capabilities across campaign management, advertiser onboarding, product catalogue integration, audience activation, auction and ranking, budget and pacing, ad serving, measurement, attribution, reporting, and partner integrations.

Key responsibilitie

  • Define and execute the long-term engineering vision and platform strategy for Retail AdTech, aligned with overall business and monetization objectives
  • Drive platform unification and reduce fragmentation across campaign management, serving, data, measurement, and reporting systems
  • Partner closely with Product, Business, Sales, Data Science, Finance, Security, and retail stakeholders to define priorities and deliver measurable business outcomes
  • Ensure operational excellence across reliability, scalability, observability, cost efficiency, release quality, and incident management
  • Establish clear engineering standards and foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, innovation, and outcome orientation
  • Own the architecture of low-latency platforms that power advertising across retail and commerce surfaces
  • Develop advertiser-facing capabilities for campaign creation, product selection, targeting, budgeting, bidding, creative management, reporting, and optimization
  • Build high-throughput ad serving, auction, ranking, eligibility, and decisioning systems capable of operating under strict latency and availability requirements
  • Define the technical direction for budget management, pacing, frequency controls, yield optimization, and marketplace efficiency
  • Build machine learning systems for relevance, ranking, conversion prediction, bid optimization, audience modeling, and campaign performance optimization

Skills and attributes for success

  • Experience leading multiple software engineering teams responsible for large-scale advertising, commerce, marketplace, or monetization platforms
  • Strong understanding of advertising technology concepts, including campaign management, targeting, auctions, bidding, ranking, pacing, attribution, and measurement
  • Deep architectural and distributed-systems expertise, with experience building low-latency, high-throughput, and highly available platforms
  • Experience designing platforms for multiple tenants, business units, advertisers, or commerce partners
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and develop senior engineering talent and build effective leadership layers
  • Strong product and business judgment, with the ability to connect technical investments to advertiser outcomes, platform adoption, and revenue growth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical strategy and trade-offs clearly to senior stakeholders

Preferred education and experience

Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Machine Learning with 13+ years of experience in software development and 5+ years in leadership roles
