Job Description

As Senior Director – Capacity Planning (FTL), you will be the apex strategic and operational authority for Full Truckload fleet capacity across all of India. This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership role that shapes the supply architecture powering Delhivery's FTL business at national scale.

You will own the end-to-end capacity ecosystem — from long-term lease strategy and Fixed Rate Contract (FRC) governance to real-time supply orchestration and new vendor network development. You will lead a team of regional Capacity Planning Directors (North, South, East, West) and be the definitive bridge between national Business Development, the Pan India Supply team, Finance, and Ground Operations.

1. National Capacity Strategy & Architecture

  • Design and own the Pan India FTL capacity blueprint, translating multi-year demand projections into a tiered supply strategy across leased assets, FRCs, and spot/ad-hoc vendor pools.
  • Lane Architecture: Define and continuously refine the national lane network, identifying high-density corridors, emerging demand clusters, and whitespace opportunities that merit long-term supply commitments.
  • Supply Mix Optimization: Determine the optimal lease-vs-FRC-vs-spot ratio across all regions, balancing cost efficiency with service reliability and demand volatility.
  • Capacity Roadmap: Build and own a rolling 3-year national capacity plan, synchronized with BD forecasts, seasonal demand cycles, and Delhivery's overall network expansion strategy.

2. Lease Portfolio Management & Asset Optimization

  • Portfolio Governance: Own the full lifecycle of Delhivery's national leased asset portfolio — from investment case and procurement through deployment, performance review, and renewal/exit decisions
  • High Density Lane Conversion: Direct regional teams to identify and convert high-frequency lanes into long-term lease arrangements, using rigorous historical demand and First Mile (FM) pattern analysis.
  • Two way Volume Engineering: Partner with national and regional BD leadership to engineer backhaul and circular volume commitments that maximize asset utilization and eliminate dry runs at a fleet level.
  • Unit Economics: Establish national benchmarks for lease cost-per-km vs. spot rates; ensure all lease deployments clear defined return thresholds before approval.
  • Asset Deployment & Compliance: Set brand and operational compliance standards (vehicle livery, GPS, safety) for all leased assets nationwide, with oversight through regional Supply teams.

3. FRC Strategy & Vendor Network Development

  • FRC Governance: Own the design, negotiation framework, and performance governance of Fixed Rate Contracts across all lanes and regions; drive rate rationalization and consolidation.
  • Vendor Network Expansion: Lead the strategic onboarding of new transporter partners in supply-deficit corridors; set quality, reliability, and rate benchmarks for national vendor empanelment.
  • Vendor Segmentation: Tier the vendor ecosystem by reliability, scale, and strategic value; design differentiated partnership models (preferred vendor, FRC, spot pool) for each segment.
  • RFQ & Bid Management: Oversee all major RFQs and rate negotiations at the national level, including strategic cluster launches and large enterprise customer onboarding requirements.

4. Integrated Demand Forecasting & Supply Orchestration

  • National Demand Intelligence: Own the capacity forecasting model for the Pan India FTL network, integrating BD pipeline data, historical shipment patterns, seasonality, and macroeconomic signals.:
  • Regional Supply Direction: Convert national forecasts into precise, time-bound supply mandates for each region — specifying vehicle type mix, FRC headcount, and new vendor requirements.
  • Real-Time Capacity Funnel Management: Monitor and manage the national capacity funnel: trip frequency per asset class, actual vs. planned procurement rates, fill rates, and real-time utilization metrics.
  • New Cluster Launch Strategy: Lead supply planning for all new cluster and market launches nationally, providing regional Supply teams with clear go-live timelines and operational readiness checklists.

Key Skills & Qualification

  • 12–18 years in Supply Chain Planning, Logistics, or Network Design with a dominant focus on FTL/freight operations; minimum 4–5 years in a national or multi-regional leadership role managing large, distributed teams
  • MBA from a premier institute (IIM / ISB / equivalent) or B.Tech + MBA combination; a Master's in Operations Research or Supply Chain Management is highly regarded.
  • Expert-level data modeling and analytics capability (Advanced Excel, SQL, Python preferred); demonstrated experience building demand forecasting models and supply optimization frameworks at scale.
  • Strong grasp of logistics unit economics, vendor commercials, and P&L drivers; experienced in large-scale rate negotiations, RFQ management, and cost benchmarking.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire large, geographically dispersed teams; strong executive presence with the capacity to influence C-suite and senior leadership stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of India's FTL ecosystem — transporter landscape, regional demand dynamics, seasonal freight patterns, and regulatory environment.
