The Role
We are seeking a Senior Developer to design and build high-performance, low-latency simulation engines for 5G NR and O-RAN networks. You will lead the development of emulator systems for O-RAN Radio Units (O-RUs) and User Equipment (UE), focusing on PHY and MAC layer implementations using C/C++ and DPDK on multi-core Linux platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain high-throughput simulator engines accurately emulating O-RU behaviour and 5G NR UE protocol stacks (PHY and MAC layers)
- Develop and validate O-RAN Fronthaul interface specifications (WG4) across C-Plane, U-Plane, S-Plane, and M-Plane
- Write low-latency, highly parallel data path pipelines using DPDK and SIMD vector extensions (AVX-512/AVX2) on modern x86 architectures
- Architect robust multi-threaded and multi-process simulation pipelines using advanced IPC mechanisms, lock-free ring buffers, and shared memory
- Deploy, optimise, and profile simulator components within containerised and virtualised environments (KVM, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Implement test drivers and integrate application-layer verification protocols to validate complete simulation workflows against standard gNodeB and core network implementations
Must-Have Requirements
- Hands-on experience with O-RAN Fronthaul (WG4 interfaces — C/U/S/M-plane); keywords: O-RAN, ORAN, fronthaul
- Direct implementation or simulation experience with 5G NR PHY and/or MAC layer
- 5+ years of production-grade C or C++ systems programming in low-latency or HPC environments
- Hands-on DPDK experience — kernel-bypass packet processing, ring buffers, memory pool management
- Background at a wireless simulator or real wireless product company (not purely consulting)
- Willingness to attend an in-office POC round in Whitefield, Bangalore (mandatory, cannot be done remotely)
Good-to-Have Skills
- Rust — production-level experience in HPC or telecom/embedded contexts
- SIMD vectorization — AVX-512 / AVX2 for signal processing pipelines
- Virtualization — KVM, Docker, Kubernetes, SR-IOV
- Go (Golang) for tooling or control-plane orchestration
- Multi-threaded Linux systems programming — CPU pinning, IPC, lock-free concurrency
- Application-layer protocols — NETCONF/YANG, SCTP, TR-069
