Position Overview:
The Sr. Design Manager- Ticketing & Tolling Solutions is the technical authority responsible for defining, governing, and validating the end-to-end architecture of ticketing and tolling systems across Metro, Bus, Rail, and Tolling (ETC/FASTag) environments. This role ensures solutions are secure, scalable, interoperable, and compliant, spanning field sale devices, backend platforms, payments, and settlement systems.
Job Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the analysis of the compliance between customer requirements and product/solution capabilities during the tender phase
2. During the tender phase, evaluate the internal effort, costs and timeline corresponding to the proposed solution.
Identify and track the technical risks and opportunities
Ensure the consistency between the designed and delivered solution and the customer requirements during the project phase
Lead the system design definition and specification phase, in strong and direct collaboration with the customer and third parties
3. Define the interfaces between Hitachi Rail solutions and the rest of the ecosystem (customer and third party solutions)
4. Own and drive the end-to-end architecture for enterprise-grade Ticketing and Tolling systems, ensuring scalability, security, and regulatory compliance.
5. Serve as the final technical authority for overall solution design, architecture decisions, and change governance across the program lifecycle.
6. Lead the design, integration, and standardization of field devices, including:
Fare Sale & Access Devices: Validators, Automatic Gates, Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), POS terminals, and Handheld Devices
Tolling Devices: RFID Readers, Lane Controllers, and ANPR Camera Systems
7. Define and govern device-to-backend communication architecture, including protocols, offline operations, data buffering, retries, failover, and system recovery mechanisms.
8. Ensure full compliance with EMV®, PCI, PTS/DSS, CBT, ISO standards, Cyber Security and national tolling and mobility frameworks such as FASTag and other applicable regulatory mandates.
9. Oversee the design and operation of back-office platforms, including transaction processing, clearing & settlement, reconciliation, exception handling, and dispute management workflows.
10. Lead and facilitate architecture and design reviews with OEMs, System Integrators, Banks, Payment Networks, and Government / Transport Authorities.
11. Provide architectural and technical leadership during Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, pilot implementations, certifications, and large-scale production rollouts, ensuring performance, stability, and compliance.

Experience: 12+ Years
Education:
B.E./B.Tech (Electronics / Computer Science or equivalent)
M.E./M.Tech preferred
Certifications in Payments / EMV / Security are an advantage
