Job Description

Your Job

As a Product Design Engineer, you will lead and execute the design and development of plastic and sheet metal components for connector products. You will play a key role in design modification projects, product maintenance, SPO projects, VAVE initiatives, and selected new product development activities. This role requires close collaboration with cross‑functional teams while consistently demonstrating Principle‑Based Management (PBM) aligned behaviors such as ownership, value creation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About The Team

You will be part of the MSBU group, specializing in the design and manufacturing of connectors for consumer applications.

Our product portfolio includes FPC/FFC, BB, and IO connectors.

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Design Execution

  • Own and support assigned products within the existing product portfolio, providing technical accountability for design quality
  • Independently drive design modification, new development, product maintenance, VAVE, incremental improvement, and SPO projects
  • Participate in and support new product development activities, from concept through release
  • Lead the design and development of plastic and sheet metal components for connector products

Advanced Mechanical Design & Validation

  • Execute and review detailed mechanical designs ensuring functional, dimensional, and manufacturability requirements are met
  • Create and review 3D models and 2D drawings, applying appropriate GD&T based on functional needs
  • Perform and review tolerance stack‑up analysis to ensure robust fit, form, and assembly performance
  • Actively participate in DFMEA activities, identifying risks and implementing mitigation actions
  • Support and review FEA results to validate designs and drive improvements
  • Lead or support material selection considering performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability

Manufacturing & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Drive DFM/DFA initiatives to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, yield, and cost
  • Work closely with manufacturing plants, quality, and supply chain to resolve design, tooling, and production issues
  • Support tooling development, production ramp‑up, and sustaining engineering activities.

Project & Knowledge Leadership

  • Manage design tasks and deliverables with minimal supervision, meeting project timelines and quality targets
  • Identify technical risks early and implement corrective actions
  • Prepare and maintain design documentation, engineering change records, and technical reports
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing
  • Communicate design intent, status, risks, and recommendations effectively across teams

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in product or mechanical design.
  • Strong understanding of the end‑to‑end product development process, including production support
  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and standards
  • Experience in tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFMEA, DFM/DFA.
  • Hands‑on experience with plastic injection molding and sheet metal manufacturing processes
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and root‑cause analysis skills
  • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively in cross‑functional environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Strong alignment with PBM, including ownership, value creation, evidence‑based decisions, and continuous improvement
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in product design and sustaining engineering
  • Experience in plastic and sheet metal connector design for high‑volume or precision products
  • Proven involvement in VAVE, SPO, or cost‑reduction initiatives
  • Practical collaboration with manufacturing plants and suppliers
  • Ability to adapt quickly, mentor junior engineers, and act as a design focal point
