We are establishing ADB SAFEGATE LABS in Hyderabad, our newest extension of global engineering capabilities. The Labs focus on building and evolving digital platforms, data-driven services, and AI-enabled solutions that support airport operations across Airfield, Apron, Tower, and Weather domains. 

As part of a globally distributed engineering organisation, the Hyderabad Labs work closely with teams across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, contributing directly to solutions deployed at airports worldwide. 

THE OPPORTUNITY 

Build the data foundation for the future of airport operations. 

We're seeking a Senior Data Engineer to architect and implement advanced data solutions that power our Airside 4.0 vision—the next generation of intelligent, automated, and connected airport operations. 

What is Airside 4.0  

It's the digital transformation of airport ground operations, combining IoT sensors, real-time data streams, predictive analytics, and AI to make airports safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. Think: thousands of IoT devices generating real-time data on aircraft movements, lighting systems, weather conditions, gate operations, and ground equipment—all requiring sophisticated data pipelines and analytics platforms. 

This role combines technical depth, architectural thinking, and the opportunity to shape how airports worldwide leverage data. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Data Platform & Pipeline Development 

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks and Azure  

• Architect solutions processing large-scale structured and unstructured data from IoT devices, airport sensors, and operational systems 

• Integrate real-time and batch data streams ensuring high performance, reliability, and data quality 

• Design optimized data models for analytics of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data 

• Make architectural decisions on storage strategies, processing frameworks, and integration patterns 

Technical Leadership & Best Practices 

• Mentor junior data engineers; establish coding standards, testing practices, and operational excellence 

• Champion data governance, security, and compliance standards; drive CI/CD automation 

• Lead technical design reviews and influence architectural decisions 

• Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance and reliability 

Collaboration & Delivery 

• Collaborate with Data Science, ML Engineering, Product, and Business teams to translate requirements into robust solutions 

• Partner with Software Engineers and DevOps teams for seamless integration and deployment 

• Document architectural decisions, data models, and processes for knowledge sharing 

• Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders 

We're Looking for Someone With:  

• 5+ years in data engineering, with strong track record of delivering scalable solutions in cloud environments  

• Expert-level experience with Databricks and Azure Data Services   

• Proven experience building production-grade data pipelines processing large-scale datasets 

• Experience with microservices architecture using Docker, Kubernetes  

• Experience with real-time data processing (streaming architectures, event-driven systems) 

• Deep understanding of data modeling techniques: dimensional modeling, data vault, star/snowflake schemas  

• Expert knowledge of ETL/ELT best practices and modern data integration patterns  

Preferred Qualifications 

• Background in aviation, transportation, or mission-critical systems 

• Advanced proficiency in Python or Scala for data processing and pipeline development  

• Strong knowledge of SQL and query optimization techniques  

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing in data engineering workflows 

• Knowledge of data pipeline orchestration tools (Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Databricks Workflows) 

Education: 

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field 

• Relevant certifications (Azure, Databricks) are highly valued 

• Equivalent experience with strong technical foundation considere
