Position Title: Senior Communications Manager, India

Location: India

Reports To: Communications and Engagement Director (Global), dotted line to the India Hub Director

Hours per week (average): 40 (full time)

Overtime Status: Exempt

We currently work in East Africa, North America, South Asia (India) and Southern Africa and are expanding to other geographies. Our work includes a Leadership Journey, which focuses on giving mid-career women the tools, along with peer, mentor and coach support, to successfully use their voice, expertise and leadership for health impact. It also includes increasing awareness on the value of women's leadership in health and what reimagined leadership looks, sounds, and acts like. Ultimately our goal is to encourage and support concrete action by women, male allies, institutional leaders, governments, partners and high level champions to change the face of leadership in health, both globally and nationally, at the individual, institutional and societal level. Position Summary

WomenLift Health is seeking an experienced, innovative, and dynamic individual to join its global communications team, based in India, to support the India hub while contributing to priority global communications initiatives. This role combines regional leadership with global functional contributions, ensuring strong alignment between hub priorities and the organization's overall communications strategy. As WomenLift Health deepens its presence in India and advances toward long-term sustainability, this role sits at the center of how we build visibility, influence, and partnerships in one of our most significant hubs.

The role reports to the Director, Communications and Engagement (Global) with a dotted line to the India Director, working in close coordination with the India hub team. The ideal candidate will be able to think strategically and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience demonstrating communications judgment and acumen commensurate with the responsibilities of this position.

The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for intake, prioritization, workflow management, quality assurance, and strategic storytelling across the region. This individual must thrive in an entrepreneurial, cross-cultural, mission-driven, and creative work environment, and be passionate about global health, using communications to support business development and women's leadership in health.

The successful candidate will bring strategic content leadership, strong writing and editorial judgment, and operational discipline. They will be a proactive self-starter and a passionate advocate for advancing women's leadership in global health, with an understanding of global health and business development.

Responsibilities And Tasks

Below are the key responsibilities of the role. In addition, the incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and level of the position.

Strategic communications leadership and institutional positioning

  • Lead the development and execution of the India hub communications strategy in alignment with WomenLift Health's global communications priorities and organizational strategy
  • Act as a strategic communications partner to the India Director and hub leadership to strengthen institutional visibility, credibility, and influence

Global health thought leadership and influence

  • Position WomenLift Health as a recognized voice in global health leadership, gender equality, and health systems strengthening through strategic content and visibility initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to contribute to global health discourse through publications, convenings, and partnerships
  • Develop compelling narratives that demonstrate the impact of women's leadership on health systems and institutional change
  • Monitor the global health landscape and identify opportunities to elevate WLH perspectives and expertise

Partnerships, resource mobilization, and business development support

  • Collaborate with leadership and partnership teams to develop communications assets supporting fundraising, partnerships, and institutional engagement
  • Develop messaging and positioning materials that clearly articulate WomenLift Health's value proposition to funders and partners
  • Support communications inputs into partnership proposals, donor reporting, and strategic engagement opportunities
  • Identify visibility opportunities that strengthen WLH positioning with foundations, multilaterals, academic institutions, and private sector partners

Brand, marketing, and audience growth

India hub responsibilities

  • Support the marketing and positioning of WomenLift Health programmes, leadership offerings, and institutional initiatives in India
  • Develop audience centered communications approaches that strengthen engagement with priority stakeholders in the region
  • Identify opportunities to expand WomenLift Health reach in India through new channels, partnerships, and communications approaches

Global and cross regional contributions

  • Support global brand positioning and marketing initiatives aligned with WomenLift Health strategic priorities, including social enterprise positioning
  • Ensure brand consistency and narrative coherence across communications platforms and materials
  • Contribute to audience growth and visibility efforts across regions through shared campaigns, storytelling, and strategic communications initiatives

Executive visibility and stakeholder engagement for the regional and global leadership

  • Support strategic visibility of the India Director, fellows, alumnae, and senior leadership through speaking opportunities, media engagement, and thought leadership platforms
  • Develop messaging, talking points, and briefing materials to support leadership engagement
  • Strengthen communications that amplify the voices and leadership journeys of fellows and alumnae
  • Support strategic engagement of the India alumnae network as ambassadors and champions of WLH
    • Lead development of high quality written, visual, and multimedia content aligned with strategic priorities
    • Oversee editorial planning and content prioritization to ensure communications efforts support institutional objectives
    • Ensure strong editorial quality, clarity, and consistency across communications outputs
    • Strengthen storytelling approaches that demonstrate impact, influence, and leadership journeys
Global and regional content strategy, storytelling, and editorial excellence

  • Play an active role as part of the cross regional communications team, proactively proposing stories, campaigns, and ideas for promotion across global and social media channels

Digital engagement and communications delivery

India hub responsibilities

  • Oversee development of digital content for the India hub across the website, newsletters, and social media platforms
  • Ensure regular and accurate updates of India hub content across WomenLift Health platforms
  • Work with designers, videographers, and vendors to deliver compelling multimedia communications supporting regional priorities
  • Track regional communications performance and audience engagement metrics to inform strategic decision making

Global and cross regional contributions

  • Contribute digital content, stories, and campaigns for global and cross regional communications initiatives
  • Collaborate with the cross regional communications team to strengthen digital visibility and engagement across priority audiences
  • Use data and insights to help refine global communications approaches and improve effectiveness
  • Contribute to reporting on communications impact and to organizational goals

General Responsibilities

  • Carry out other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills And Ability

  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, Global Health, Journalism, Public Policy, advocacy, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in communications for nonprofit, media, academic, or research organizations
  • Training in or experience supporting marketing and business development
  • Experience working with donors, foundations, or multilateral organizations
  • Experience translating technical or research content into accessible narratives
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and audience segmentation
  • Strong storytelling for influence and fundraising
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and creative management skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical content
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands on execution. Note: as the sole communications professional in the India hub, this role requires genuine comfort with both setting strategy and executing directly including content production, vendor management, and platform upkeep.
  • Strong aesthetic sense and aptitude for visual and interactive content creation in addition to text based content
  • Familiarity with content creation tools (Adobe Suite, Canva, etc.)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain high quality under pressure, and deliver across a varied portfolio of work
  • Ability to demonstrate inclusiveness, collaboration, respect, and broad organizational interests
  • Proactive self-starter able to work independently
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in gender equality and advancing women's leadership in health.
  • May require up to 10 percent travel
