About the Role
Turing is seeking a motivated, strategic, and pragmatic Senior Commercial Counsel to join our growing legal team. As a key member of Turing Legal, you will work closely with the Head of Commercial Legal to provide legal advice and support to the company's executives and various cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic tech environment, with substantive experience in the areas of commercial contracting, intellectual property, and client and vendor relationship management. The ideal candidate is also interested in expanding their scope and taking on a larger generalist role to support the company's various cross-functional teams and legal needs.
Responsibilities
- Negotiating and drafting sales and procurement agreements, such as MSAs, SOWs, vendor contracts, licensing agreements, and recruiting agreements.
- Drafting new templates as needed and continually improving and maintaining existing templates.
- Creating and leading legal training for cross-functional teams, specially the Sales team.
- Working with the Legal Operations Manager to build contracting efficiencies and create best practices.
- Supporting cross-functional executives and teams from Sales, Product, Human Resources, Engineering, Finance, and Marketing by identifying and mitigating legal issues for the commercialization of Turing's business offering while helping to drive comprehensive, long-term strategies that balance growth and other business objectives with risk.
- Shaping and improving our legal processes that enable both legal and business functions to scale effectively.
- Assist with other legal matters on an as-needed basis, including advising internal teams on legal and regulatory compliance matters, including data protection, privacy, and intellectual property issues.
Required Skills
- 7+ years of experience as a licensed attorney working in-house (especially for a large US-based technology company) and/or a law firm, with at least 3+ years of experience focused on commercial contracting, especially in the context of data procurement and licensing.
- Authorization to practice law in India for international commercial practice.
- Pragmatic, collaborative, and creative legal thinker with excellent judgment and a willingness to take on new responsibilities and challenges.
- Established record of sound judgment and decision making.
- Excellent communication, writing, and persuasion skills.
- Self-starter with strong organization and project management skills.
- Can work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that challenges conventional wisdom while maintaining the highest standards for legal and ethical compliance.
- Ability and willingness to routinely support team members and clients located in the U.S. Pacific time zone.
- Humility, empathy, and a sense of humor is also greatly appreciated.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with employment law matters, including employee/independent contractor misclassification issues.
- Experience with data privacy and data protection.
- Experience in advising companies operating in the AI, technology, staff augmentation, and/or professional services industries.
