Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst who can operate as a trusted bridge between scientific stakeholders and technology teams. This role requires more than requirements documentation. The ideal candidate can engage in open, exploratory conversations with scientists and business users, understand laboratory sample logistics and scientific workflows, and translate real business needs into clear, actionable requirements. The focus is on understanding intent, constraints, and outcomes, not just capturing stated requests.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Domain Engagement
- Engage directly with laboratory scientists, operations teams, and business stakeholders to understand end-to-end laboratory sample logistics and related workflows.
- Demonstrate strong grasp of laboratory and scientific concepts to hold meaningful, credible discussions with subject matter experts.
- Facilitate free-flowing conversations to uncover underlying needs, dependencies, and business goals rather than relying solely on predefined questionnaires.
- Interpret ambiguous or evolving requirements and help stakeholders articulate what they truly need to achieve.
Requirements Discovery & Analysis
- Elicit, analyse, and refine functional and non-functional requirements from discussions, workshops, and observations.
- Translate business conversations into well-structured requirements, user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria.
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities in existing processes and workflows.
- Ensure requirements are aligned with overall business objectives, regulatory considerations, and operational realities.
Solution Alignment & Impact Assessment
- Assess how new or changing requirements impact existing applications, integrations, and data flows.
- Work closely with technical teams to ensure business needs are accurately interpreted and feasible within the current technology landscape.
- Support evaluation of enhancement options, trade-offs, and implementation approaches.
- Help define and prioritize enhancements based on business value, complexity, and dependencies.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a key liaison between business users, scientists, product owners, architects, and development teams.
- Clearly communicate complex business and scientific concepts to technical audiences, and technical constraints back to business users.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
Delivery Support & Governance
- Support solution design reviews to ensure requirements are fully addressed.
- Participate in backlog grooming, sprint planning, and review sessions as needed.
- Assist with UAT planning, test scenario creation, and validation of delivered solutions against business intent.
- Ensure documentation is clear, complete, and usable for long-term maintenance and scalability.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, with significant exposure to complex enterprise systems.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations, sample lifecycle, and scientific workflows.
- Proven ability to derive requirements through conversations rather than rigid templates.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments is strongly preferred.
- Ability to connect business needs to system behaviour, data models, and integrations at a conceptual level.
