Desired Competencies (Technical/Behavioral Competency)
Must-Have In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing IBM Tivoli Storage Manager solutions. Setup and configure the backups using Storage Container pools. Proficiency in administering IBM TSM servers, clients, storage pools, and backup devices. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues related to backup failures, data corruption, and system errors.
Good-to-Have Experience in disaster recovery planning and testing, including failover and failback procedures. Experience in optimizing the performance of IBM TSM servers and storage pools for enhanced backup efficiency and scalability. Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and their impact on backup and recovery processes. Knowledge of managing HP StoreOnce VTL's and setup replication between them. Knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage), and tape libraries.
SN Responsibility of / Expectations from the Role
1 Design, implement, and maintain IBM Tivoli Storage Manager solutions to meet the backup and recovery needs of the organization.
2 Configure and manage backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies to ensure data protection and compliance.
3 Monitor and optimize the performance of IBM TSM servers, storage pools, and backup devices.
4 Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to backup failures, data corruption, and system errors.
5 Performing capacity planning assessments to forecast storage requirements and ensure scalability of the backup infrastructure.
6 Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate IBM TSM with existing infrastructure and applications.
7 Develop and maintain documentation, including backup procedures, system configurations, and recovery plans.
8 Stay up to date with the latest developments in IBM TSM technology and recommend improvements to enhance the backup infrastructure.
9 Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators as needed.
10 Automating routine tasks such as backup scheduling, reporting, and maintenance activities.
11 Implementing and maintaining disaster recovery procedures and processes to minimize business disruption.
12 Resolve production and non-production incidents along with Incident Reduction and Optimization.
13 Ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) related to backup and recovery operations
14 Recommending hardware and software upgrades or enhancements to support future growth and evolving business needs.
15 Managing vendor relationships and engaging with IBM support resources to resolve technical issues and obtain assistance with product-related matters.
16 Providing support to Storage infra operations when required.
