About the Role
We're looking for aSenior Backend Developerwith strong experience inPHP,WordPress, andShopifyto join our team from Kolkata. You'll be responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing high-performing web applications and ecommerce experiences.
You should be comfortable working across multiple platforms, picking up new tools quickly, and usingAI tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, etc.) to speed up development, debugging, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain backend features usingPHP(modern practices, OOP, MVC).
- Build, customize, and optimizeWordPressthemes and plugins (including custom post types, hooks, filters, REST API).
- Develop and customizeShopifystores (Liquid, theme customization, app integrations).
- Integrate third-party APIs and services (payment gateways, marketing tools, CRM, etc.).
- Write clean, secure, scalable, and well-documented code.
- UseAI toolsto:
- Speed up coding and refactoring
- Generate boilerplate code and tests
- Assist in debugging and research
- Collaborate with frontend devs, designers, and product managers to deliver complete features.
- Optimize performance, security, and reliability across platforms.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term fixes.
- Stay updated with new technologies, frameworks, and best practices, and be ready to adopt new platforms when needed.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- 5+ yearsof professional experience in backend development.
- StrongPHPskills, including OOP and modern PHP standards.
- Deep experience withWordPress:
- Custom theme and plugin development
- Hooks, filters, template hierarchy
- WP REST API, custom post types, taxonomies
- Strong experience withShopify:
- Liquid templates
- Theme customization
- App integrations and basic app development
- SolidJavaScriptskills:
- Strong grasp of vanilla JS
- Experience with at least one modern frontend framework (React, Vue, or similar) is a plus.
- Comfortable usingAI toolsin your workflow (for code generation, refactoring, documentation, testing, etc.).
- Solid understanding ofREST APIs, HTTP, and JSON.
- Experience withGitand collaborative workflows (branches, PRs, code reviews).
- Experience working withdatabases(MySQL or similar) and writing efficient queries.
- Familiarity withsecurity best practices(XSS, CSRF, SQL injection prevention).
- Comfortable working in anagileenvironment with deadlines.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience withShopify app development.
- Familiarity withheadless WordPressorheadless Shopify.
- Experience withCI/CD pipelinesand automated deployments.
- Basic DevOps knowledge (Linux servers, Nginx/Apache, caching, etc.).
- Experience working withpage speed optimizationtools and techniques.
- Prior experience in anagencyorproductenvironment handling multiple projects.
