The Role

The role of a backend engineer has evolved, and this position reflects that. We seek an engineer who thinks structurally — who resolves problems at the level of core design rather than patching symptoms. Increasingly, our products are powered by AI agents that operate against our backend through Claude APIs, making autonomous agents a first-class consumer of our systems alongside human users and other services. The design of our APIs and tool interfaces determines how reliably and efficiently those agents operate — well-scoped, minimal, self-describing interfaces allow an agent to use them correctly without reloading context on every call. We want an engineer who designs with this setup in mind.

Key Responsibilities

•   Understand the system before changing it — establish what is actually happening and where a change belongs, rather than acting on the surface symptom.

•   Evaluate every change across the dimensions that matter: scalability, multi-tenancy, and concurrency — not merely whether it works in isolation.

•   Favour reuse and consistency — extend existing code and established patterns wherever possible rather than duplicating logic.

•   Build for the future — design so that new features can be added without rework, keeping the codebase extensible rather than accumulating one-off fixes.

•   Resolve problems at their structural root, with solutions that hold up under scale and load.

•   Design internal APIs and tool surfaces as clean, minimal, well-documented contracts that AI agents can consume efficiently, reducing tool sprawl and context overhead.

•   Own backend services end to end (FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka/RabbitMQ, Docker, GitLab CI/CD), using AI tools including Claude across design, implementation, review, and debugging, while remaining fully accountable for what ships.

What We're Looking For

•   4–6 years of backend engineering experience at a product-based company.

•   Strong system-design ability — clear reasoning about scalability, reliability, concurrency, and the trade-offs between them.

•   Fluent use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering, with a clear sense of where they accelerate work, where they fail, and how to verify their output.

•   Sharp debugging instincts and the discipline to solve problems at the root.

•   Solid command of Python and the FastAPI ecosystem, PostgreSQL (data modelling and query optimisation), Docker, and CI/CD.

•   Working familiarity with distributed-systems fundamentals: caching, message brokers, asynchronous processing, and connection pooling.

•   An ownership mindset, with end-to-end accountability for the systems you build.

Strong Pluses

•   Experience designing or building AI agents — orchestrating workflows around a model API rather than building models from scratch. We value engineers who have built systems around an AI API.

•   Exposure to product environments operating at meaningful scale.

•   Hands-on infrastructure and DevOps experience: reverse proxies, SSL, monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana), and server hardening.

•   Experience with multi-tenancy, event streaming, or real-time systems (WebSockets, pub/sub).

Compensation & Details

Compensation:₹24–36 LPA, commensurate with experience.

Location:Gurugram, India.

Work model:Hybrid — 4 days in office, 1 work-from-home day (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday).
