About the role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own the design, build and production support of the backend services and APIs that power our care-delivery platform. Healthcare today is fragmented across many services; your work will unify them into a single, seamless patient experience.

You will define and scale core architecture for long-term reliability and take features end-to-end, from design through rollout. You will work closely with clinical, product and engineering teams, including colleagues in the US.

What you'll do:

• Design, build and maintain production-grade backend services and APIs in Java or Go.
• Define and scale core platform architecture for long-term reliability and performance.
• Own features end-to-end: write design docs, build, roll out, monitor and iterate.
• Support services in production, including on-call rotations and incident response.
• Integrate fragmented healthcare services and data sources into one coherent patient experience.
• Partner with clinical, product and engineering teams to turn requirements into well-scoped technical solutions.
• Shape engineering culture and help balance product velocity against tech debt.

What we're looking for:

• 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience; 5+ years preferred for this Senior role.
• Deep, hands-on expertise in Java, used as a primary language in your recent roles and projects.
• A strongly backend-focused career, with roughly 80% or more of your recent work on backend systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, systems at scale, real-time or high-volume data, or complex third-party integrations, beyond CRUD or maintenance-only work.
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership: authoring design docs, leading rollouts, participating in on-call and handling production incidents.
• Strong written communication for async collaboration with US-based teams.

• Healthcare or relevant industry experience

This role is part of Accompany Health's (AH) Global Capability Center (GCC) in India. We have set up our GCC with InCommon as our India partner under an Employer of Record (EOR) model. InCommon handles all HR activities; therefore, selected candidates will be employees of InCommon on paper, while working full-time as part of the Accompany Health team.
