Senior Backend Engineer (Go)

About the Role

We're looking for a senior backend engineer who writes production Go and enjoys building reliable, distributed systems. You'll join a small, early engineering team and take ownership of core backend services, from design through to running them in production.

This role sits close to the infrastructure: the services you build will orchestrate cloud resources, handle long-running background work, and need to behave correctly when things fail. We value reliability and clear design over cleverness.

What you'll do

• Design and build backend services and APIs in Go
• Build and maintain asynchronous job processing: queues, retries, idempotent operations and failure recovery
• Integrate with cloud provider APIs and third-party services
• Design data models and write performant, safe PostgreSQL code
• Build secure, multi-tenant REST APIs with authentication and role-based access control
• Add metrics, structured logging and alerting to everything you ship
• Take part in architecture decisions, code reviews and a shared on-call rotation

What we are looking for

Must have

• 5+ years of backend engineering, with at least 3 years writing production Go
• Solid concurrency in Go: goroutines, channels, context cancellation and timeouts, and graceful shutdown
• Strong PostgreSQL: schema design, transactions, row locking, migrations and query tuning
• Experience building distributed or asynchronous systems: job queues, retries, idempotency and failure handling
• Comfort with Linux, networking basics (DNS, TLS, HTTP, TCP) and debugging on real servers
• REST API design, authentication (sessions, JWT, MFA) and multi-tenant access control
• Docker and Kubernetes experience, as a user deploying services
• Writing tests, including integration tests against real dependencies

• Linux containers and virtualisation internals
• Google Cloud Platform (GKE, IAM, VPC, Cloud SQL) and Terraform
• Workflow engines such as Temporal
• TLS/certificate automation, reverse proxies (nginx, Caddy)
• Storage systems, snapshots and backup/restore tooling
• Subscription billing integrations (e.g. Stripe)
