Verona was founded by two serial entrepreneurs Mr. Poshak Agrawal and Mr. Rahul Subramaniam, and backed by some of the biggest names in global technology, such as Mr. Michael Novogratz (ex-Fortress Investment Group, CEO of Galaxy Group Investments) & Mr. Rishi Jaitly (ex-Twitter CEO for Asia, Middle East, and Africa).

Security and Science make the basis of Verona where before matchmaking there will be Fintech-grade authentication to ensure fraud detection. Through a deep appreciation for the science of compatibility, with Verona, we will be using AI for matchmaking based on an individual's core & shared values.

Role Brief

We're looking for a Senior Back-End Developer to help design, build, and scale the services that power Verona. You'll work across our core Node.js backend and our Rust and Python microservices, making architectural decisions that hold up under production load and shipping features that reach users directly.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You won't be handed tickets in isolation — you'll shape how systems are built and be accountable for what runs in production.

Key skills and Experience

• Strong Node.js and MongoDB — these are must-haves and central to the role.
• Proven experience shipping and running production-level systems. This is non-negotiable — we want someone who has built things real users depend on, not just prototypes.
• Solid understanding of microservice architecture — service boundaries, inter-service communication, failure handling, and the trade-offs involved.
• Comfort with at least one other back-end language beyond Node.js — such as Golang or Rust — or a strong appetite to ramp up on one quickly.
• Preferably experience working in a startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity, speed, and wearing multiple hats.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Exposure to building or integrating with data-heavy or AI-driven systems.

Education

• Bachelor's/ Master's from a Tier 1 institute (preferred)
• 4–6 years of experience, primarily in back-end development.

Key Responsibilities:

1) App Back-End Development

• Design, build, and maintain the core back-end services and APIs that power the Verona app across our MERN stack.
• Own features end to end — from data modeling and API design through deployment and iteration in production.
• Make pragmatic decisions about service boundaries, schema design, and performance in MongoDB.
• Collaborate closely with product and front-end to ship quickly without cutting corners on reliability.

2) Microservices & Data Science

• Build and extend our microservices in Rust and Python — including the feed and matching services that decide what users see.
• Contribute to refining Verona's AI matchmaker — an industry-first in India and one of our most loved features by users.
• Work closely with the product team on analytics and data science — building the pipelines and services that turn user-behavior signals into live product features.
• Translate insights about how users search, match, and connect into systems that measurably improve the experience.

3) Performance, Reliability & Observability

• Identify performance bottlenecks and lead improvements in latency, throughput, and infrastructure cost.
• Manage and streamline deployments via Kubernetes.
• Set up monitoring, alerting, and dashboards so we catch issues before users do.
• Own the health of the systems you build — scalability, failure handling, and production readiness.

Location & Work Environment

The Vatika Triangle; Gurgaon, India

• We have built creative space in a top corporate building in a prime location in Gurgaon.
• The office is on M.G. Road, a 2-minute walk from the M.G. Road Metro Station.

Our team comprises of creative and colorful characters, all goal-oriented and hungry for growth (and healthy food/snacks). The work environment is a mixture of formal and playful, as we all strive to get things done while sipping Italian coffee brewed in-house.
