Job Description

Senior AWS Architect & Platform Engineer (Founding Engineer)

Company: TeraOps

Location: Remote (India)

Employment Type: Full-time

About TeraOps

TeraOps is building the next generation of cloud cost and margin intelligence for modern, consumption-based platforms. As cloud-native architectures evolve to support AI-heavy workloads, traditional cost-optimization approaches break down. GPU runtimes, bursty inference patterns, opaque managed services, and autonomous systems introduce a new class of cost and margin risk that legacy tools were never designed to handle.

TeraOps addresses both legacy cloud inefficiencies and emerging AI runtime cost challenges by combining deep cloud infrastructure intelligence with Agentic AI systems that can analyze, reason about, and act on complex AWS environments. Our goal is not to build another reporting dashboard, but to create a system that understands cloud behavior and enforces economic discipline at scale.

The Role

We are hiring a Senior AWS Architect & Platform Engineer to join TeraOps as part of the founding engineering team. This role is designed for a senior, hands-on AWS expert who combines deep infrastructure knowledge with strong engineering judgment and customer-facing maturity.

You will serve as:

The AWS Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the TeraOps platform

  • A senior engineer contributing directly to the core product
  • A technical leader working closely with customers to deliver real, measurable impact

This is not a narrow DevOps role. You will influence product architecture, guide how our AI systems interact with AWS, and help customers navigate both today's cloud cost challenges and tomorrow's AI-driven consumption models.

What You Will Do

1. AWS Architecture & Customer Impact

  • Lead the technical deployment and integration of complex customer AWS environments, including multi-account setups, security, and regulated environments.
  • Act as a trusted technical counterpart to customer engineering leaders, platform teams, and cloud architects.
  • Translate real-world customer constraints (security, scale, performance, cost, org maturity) into concrete architectural and product feedback.
  • Own technical outcomes, not just recommendations success is measured by customer impact.

2. Platform Engineering & AWS Expertise

  • Contribute directly to the TeraOps core platform by building Python-based tooling and libraries that interact deeply with AWS APIs (via boto3 and related SDKs).
  • Define and implement the logic, safeguards, and constraints that govern how our AI-driven systems observe and act on AWS infrastructure.
  • Serve as the internal authority on AWS services, usage patterns, and failure modes across services such as EC2, EKS, ECS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, and emerging AI-related services.
  • Ensure platform decisions align with AWS Well-Architected principles, especially around cost optimization, reliability, and security.

3. Cloud Cost, Scale, and AI Runtime Intelligence

  • Help design systems that understand and optimize cloud costs beyond static billing data including runtime behavior, scaling characteristics, and service interactions.
  • Contribute to approaches for managing and optimizing AI and GPU-related costs, including inference workloads, bursty consumption patterns, and margin-sensitive services.
  • Bring a pragmatic engineering mindset to cost optimization: understanding tradeoffs between performance, reliability, and economics.

4. Internal Infrastructure, DevOps, and Security

  • Own and evolve TeraOps internal and customer-facing AWS architecture using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Terragrunt).
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support rapid iteration while enforcing safety, review, and blast-radius controls.
  • Partner with security stakeholders to ensure all integrations follow zero-trust principles and meet enterprise security expectations.
  • Set technical standards and patterns that will scale as the engineering team grows.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep AWS Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting production AWS environments at scale.
  • Infrastructure as Code Mastery: Strong expertise with Terraform and Terragrunt, including modular design, state management, and multi-environment architectures.
  • Strong Python Engineering Skills: Advanced experience writing Python for automation, tooling, and system integration, with deep familiarity with AWS APIs and boto3.
  • Systems Thinker: Ability to reason about complex distributed systems, cost behaviors, and second-order effects.
  • Customer-Facing Maturity: Comfortable engaging directly with senior engineers, architects, and executives; able to explain complex technical concepts clearly and credibly.
  • High Ownership Mentality: Self-directed, comfortable operating with ambiguity, and accountable for outcomes rather than tasks.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes and containerized platforms in production.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure, GPU workloads, or consumption-based SaaS economics.
  • Exposure to Agentic AI frameworks or a strong interest in building systems that combine AI reasoning with infrastructure control.
  • AWS Professional-level certifications (Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer).

What We Offer

  • Founding-Engineer Equity: Meaningful ownership in a company tackling a hard, valuable problem at the intersection of cloud, AI, and economics.
  • Real Impact: Direct influence on product direction, architecture, and customer outcomes.
  • Technical Depth: Work on problems that require genuine systems thinking, not surface-level optimization.
  • Autonomy and Trust: High expectations, minimal bureaucracy, and freedom to execute.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Remote-friendly with a focus on outcomes over hours.

Why This Role Is Different

This role is for engineers who:

  • Want to shape a platform, not just operate one
  • Care about economic value as much as technical delivery
  • Enjoy working close to real customers and real problems
  • Are excited by the challenges introduced by AI-driven, consumption-based systems

If you are looking for a purely internal DevOps role, this is not it. If you want to be at the center of how modern cloud and AI systems are built, operated, and made economically viable, this role is core to TeraOps mission.
