Roles & Responsibilities
The Patient Finance Counselor will be responsible for:
- Financial Counseling:
- Conducting financial counseling sessions with patients to explain their medical bills, insurance benefits, and payment responsibilities.
- Assisting patients in understanding their insurance coverage, including deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance.
- Explaining hospital billing processes and procedures to patients.
- Providing information on available payment options, including cash, credit cards, and installment plans.
- Payment Arrangements:
- Establishing payment plans with patients who are unable to pay their bills in full, following hospital policies and procedures.
- Negotiating payment arrangements with patients, as necessary.
- Assisting patients with applications for financial assistance programs, if eligible.
- Insurance and Billing:
- Verifying patient insurance coverage and ensuring accurate billing information.
- Liaising with insurance companies to resolve billing issues and discrepancies.
- Assisting patients with appealing denied insurance claims.
- Customer Service and Communication:
- Providing exceptional customer service to patients, addressing their financial concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential patient financial records.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Adhering to all hospital policies and procedures related to patient financial services.
