The Team

Through continued growth comes more demand for business insights and data used to make objective decisions. To support this need, helping maintain operational efficiency and leverage our data assets to gain insights and drive decision making, A&M has invested in growing its Business Intelligence Unit. The BIU creates and maintains scalable data pipelines, constructs analysis, builds visualization tools and applications that deliver real-time information and insights to the business, and helps the business realize operational efficiencies identified in analysis.

The firm is now looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join the Business Intelligence Unit and architect the data infrastructure that powers the firm's analytical and operational applications. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the data foundations that enable the wider BIU team, ensuring data is accurate, well-modelled, and readily available to support analytics, applications, and emerging AI use cases. This role is critical to enabling our Analysts, Power Platform Developers, and business partners to derive insights and build impactful solutions.

This is a hands-on technical role offering the opportunity to shape the firm's data architecture, embed engineering discipline into how we build and deploy data assets, and partner closely with analytics and application development teams to ensure the data landscape supports both current needs and future AI/ML initiatives

How You Will Contribute

• Optimise, maintain, and improve the robustness of existing ETL scripts and data pipelines, including ownership of existing SQL Server processes.
• Contribute to embedding application lifecycle management best practices across the BIU, including version control, controlled deployments, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
• Act as a regional subject matter expert for BIU data assets, providing hands-on support for data questions, report issues, and stakeholder requirements.
• Actively review and optimise report query performance, improving reliability, speed, and scalability for key business reporting and application use cases.
• Support the transition to the new enterprise data warehouse in Snowflake, including the adoption of dbt for data transformations, modelling, documentation, and deployment discipline.
• Design and maintain business-ready data models that support analytics, reporting, application development, and future AI/ML use cases.
• Partner with Analysts, Power Platform Developers, and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into robust, maintainable technical solutions.
  
  

Desired Skills

• Experience with modern cloud data warehousing platforms, with Snowflake preferred, including performance optimisation and application of engineering best practices.
• Experience with ALM best practices, version control systems such as Git, and CI/CD approaches for database objects, transformations, or application-related data assets.
• Experience supporting SQL Server environments, including SQL Server Agent jobs, relational database design, and operational support of existing database processes.
• Experience with environment permissions, access management, and data set-up activities required to support analytics, reporting, and application development.
• Experience with data modelling concepts, dimensional modelling, schema design, and transformation frameworks such as dbt.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory and the broader Azure data stack.
• Knowledge of Python or a similar scripting language for data transformation, automation, and operational support.
• Familiarity with data governance, documentation, lineage, and metadata management.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a practical focus on improving robustness, maintainability, and performance.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide hands-on support to regional users.
• An entrepreneurial spirit; not afraid to challenge the status quo and improve how work is delivered.
  
  

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, platform engineering, or a similar technical role.
• Proven professional experience building, maintaining, and improving production data pipelines and ETL processes.
• Strong SQL capability, including query optimisation, troubleshooting, and support for business-critical reporting or application data assets.
• Understanding of ALM principles and practical experience contributing to version-controlled, repeatable deployment processes.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, acting as a trusted technical SME for regional stakeholders.
