Job Title: Senior Associate

 

Department: Indirect Taxes

 

Role Overview

  • The Indirect Tax practice at Aurtus advises corporates, MNCs, PE/VC-backed businesses, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals on the full spectrum of GST, Customs, and Foreign Trade Policy matters.
  • The Senior Associate will work closely with Partners and Directors on advisory, compliance, litigation, and due diligence engagements across diverse sectors.
  • This role offers meaningful client-facing exposure and the opportunity to take ownership of deliverables in a partner-led, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients on GST structuring, ITC optimisation, and various other aspects of indirect taxes across sectors, including manufacturing, services, real estate, infrastructure, and e-commerce
  • Drafting opinions, advisory notes, and client-ready deliverables on complex indirect tax matters
  • Handling GST compliances, including monthly/quarterly returns, annual returns (GSTR-9/9C), reconciliations, and ITC analysis
  • Drafting and assisting in litigation, which includes replies to show cause notices, appeals, written submissions, and personal hearings before GST/Customs authorities and appellate forums
  • Assisting in GST/indirect tax due diligence and health checks for M&A transactions
  • Research and tracking of legislative changes, rulings, circulars, and judicial precedents relevant to client mandates
  • Assisting with refund applications and advance ruling matters
  • Representing or assisting in representation before GST/Customs authorities

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be a Chartered Accountant
  • 2 to 4 years of post-qualification experience in Indirect Taxes (GST/Customs/FTP), preferably in a professional services firm or Big 4

  • In-depth knowledge of GST law and procedures; familiarity with Customs/FTP is a plus
  • Research-driven mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to draft clear, well-structured opinions and client communications
  • High sense of ownership, responsiveness, and ability to thrive in fast-paced client engagements.
  • Team player with strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel); familiarity with GST portal, tax research tools, and AI tools preferred
