Job Description
Backup / Storage Admin
Key Responsibilities
Storage Architecture & Management
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise storage solutions (SAN, NAS, DAS, Object Storage).
- Develop storage architecture strategies aligned with business requirements and growth.
- Manage storage platforms such as Dell EMC, NetApp, HPE, Pure Storage, IBM, etc.
- Plan and execute storage migrations, upgrades, and capacity expansions.
- Optimize storage performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Establish storage standards, policies, and best practices.
Backup & Data Protection
- Architect and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
- Design backup strategies for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
- Implement disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BCP) solutions.
- Manage tools such as Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, Rubrik, Cohesity, Dell EMC Networker, etc.
- Ensure backup compliance, retention policies, and audit requirements.
- Conduct regular DR drills and recovery testing.
Cloud & Hybrid Data Management
- Design and manage cloud-based storage and backup solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Implement hybrid backup strategies across on-prem and cloud.
- Work with object storage platforms like AWS S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage.
- Enable cloud-based disaster recovery and replication.
Operations & Support
- Monitor storage and backup infrastructure health and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex storage and backup-related incidents.
- Provide Level 3 escalation support.
- Automate routine tasks using scripts and orchestration tools.
- Coordinate with application, server, and network teams.
Governance & Compliance
- Define RPO/RTO objectives for critical systems.
- Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards.
- Implement encryption, access control, and data security measures.
- Maintain documentation, architecture diagrams, and SOPs.
Technical Skills
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong expertise in enterprise storage technologies (SAN, NAS, FC, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS).
- Hands-on experience with storage arrays such as:
- Dell EMC VMAX, PowerMax, Unity, Isilon
- NetApp ONTAP
- HPE 3PAR / Nimble
- Pure Storage
- Deep knowledge of backup tools like:
- Veritas NetBackup
- Veeam
- Commvault
- Rubrik / Cohesity
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Knowledge of cloud storage and backup (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Understanding of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience in scripting (PowerShell, Python, Shell).
