Job Description
In this role, you have the opportunity to join the leading innovator in image-guided therapy solutions as Senior Architect for the AzurionEye solution - an integrated, AI-enabled software platform. You will shape and lead the software architecture for a portfolio of RESTbased, microservicefirst applications that power our clinical data lake platform, development of data curation workflows and system software. You will blend deep handson engineering with systemlevel architectural leadership, ensuring our solutions are secure, scalable, cloudready, and compliant for the medtech domain.
You will be part of the Image Guided Therapy Systems business unit with development sites in the Netherlands, China and India. This business unit is responsible for marketing, service, development and manufacturing of solutions and products used in minimally invasive procedures. You will join the global R&D department.
Key areas of responsibility
- Assists scrum teams in defining and implementing solutions suitable for hosting current and upcoming features within release trains, ensuring compliance with nonfunctional requirements, and focusing on architectural and design decisions.
- Ensures the creation and realization of architectures, encompassing products, solutions, services, and software within a release train, and may engage in some code development activities.
- Possesses deep knowledge of software development and design, as well as familiarity with healthcare standards, customer environments, compliance requirements, and regulations (e.g., FDA).
- Collaborates with key stakeholders, including product management, R&D/software leaders, and cross-functional teams such as Software DevOps, to align on architecture and design decisions.
- Focuses on the product level or business offering with a planning horizon of 6-12 months, ensuring strategic alignment and forward-thinking architectural planning at the release level.
- Holds accountability for architecture and requirements at the product/platform level, driving the alignment of technical aspects with business goals and ensuring cohesive product development.
- Leads innovation efforts with internal partners, primarily at the peer level, facilitating cross-disciplinary and supplier collaborations to enhance technical solutions.
- Engages in technical negotiations, addressing integral trade-offs with multiple internal stakeholders and external parties, ensuring optimal solutions that balance various technical and business considerations.
- Understands and effectively applies the development logic of the Idea to Market (I2M) architecture and platform creation process, ensuring seamless interfacing with Application Development (AD) and Product Data Lifecycle Management (PDLM) suites.
- Performs decomposition and partitioning, re-using common and/or domain-specific platforms and technologies to streamline development efforts and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Define system level requirement in collaboration with product management, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity architect, Verification & Validation, Quality & Regulatory, Service/Field teams, and the Architecture Community. Map these to program increments and shared KPIs per job family guidance
- Mentor and technically lead engineers across multiple agile teams, including design review, code review cultivate a community of practice and contribute to the Philips Architecture Community.
- Partner across functions (Systems, Verification, Cybersecurity, Quality & Regulatory, Product Management, Service, Clinical/Marketing) to align scope, roadmaps, and compliance deliverables.
- Balance innovation and risk: evaluate build/buy/innersource options, steward opensource usage, and identify control points (incl. IP) in line with business value and platform strategy.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
- 18+ years in software engineering with 8+ years in architecture for distributed systems or platforms proven leadership of complex, multiteam deliveries.
- Proficiency in leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate design, coding, testing, and documentation with high-quality outcomes.
- Thrives in an agile, entrepreneurial, startup-like environment with strong ownership, learning mindset and the drive to rapidly iterate, validate and deliver customer centric solutions.
- Programming & platform depth: C++ (modern standards) for data services and systems components. Python (for integration and platform tooling using CFI SDK (Python)).
- In depth knowledge of Microservices & REST API design, Containers/Kubernetes, service mesh, API gateway, observability stack (logs, metrics, traces), GitOps, Cloud & DevOps
- Data & imaging: DICOM services, imaging data flows, tag management, deidentification pipelines performance tuning for large binary objects.
- Data warehouse concepts, query performance, partitioning, indexing, columnar storage, and C++ connectors.
- Fullstack development: Modern frontend frameworks, component libraries/design systems, APIfirst integration, accessibility, performance.
- Quality, safety, and compliance mindset with familiarity in medtech software processes (e.g., design controls, verification, postmarket vigilance) and documentation rigor expected of Philips software architects.
- WebAssembly (WASM) for highperformance client/edge modules.
