Senior API Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled API Developer with a solid foundation in coding, strong problem-solving abilities, and experience in building and optimising dynamic APIs. Our current API system is primarily built in Ruby, with complex dynamic query generation. While Ruby expertise is preferred, we also welcome candidates with extremely strong Java skills who can adapt quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure APIs.
• Work on dynamic query building and optimization for performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend, backend, and data teams to ensure smooth data integration.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex API issues.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Ensure APIs follow best practices for performance, security, and scalability.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in API development.
• Strong coding fundamentals with ability to work on complex dynamic queries.
• Proficiency in Ruby (preferred) OR extremely strong Java background with proven adaptability.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles.
• Experience with SQL/relational databases and dynamic query handling.
• Knowledge of API authentication & authorization (OAuth, JWT, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with performance optimization and debugging.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP).

Nice to Have

• Experience with GraphQL or other API architectures.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Exposure to monitoring & logging tools for APIs.
• Previous experience in high-availability, data-heavy applications.
