Senior Android Software Engineer

Job Purpose

Responsible to design, build, and operate ISA's native Android application and its mobile features, serving guests and internal users across Reservation, Flight Operations, Cargo, and supporting journeys. Acts as a senior individual contributor who leads the technical execution of Android features, raises the quality bar in code review, and mentors Associate and Software Engineers. Ensures delivery meets ISA's standards for quality, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.

Key Result Responsibilities

Feature Delivery

• Design and build complex features in the native Android app end to end, from UI through to API integration and local data.
• Own non-functional concerns (performance, security, reliability) for the squad's features.
• Drive technical design discussions and produce clear, reviewable design notes for complex stories.
  
  

Code Quality & Engineering Practice

• Champion clean code, test-first practices, and effective code review within the squad.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, and deployment hygiene for squad-owned services.
• Address technical debt pragmatically and sequence it alongside feature work.
  
  

Mentoring & Craft

• Coach Associate and Software Engineers on Android practices, app architecture, and mobile craft.
• Contribute to engineering guilds, framework work, and shared tooling.

Reliability & Operations

• Own observability for squad-owned services (logs, metrics, traces, alerts).
• Participate in on-call rotation and drive root-cause analysis for production incidents.
• Partner with Operations and DevOps on production readiness and runbooks.
  
  

Collaboration & Stakeholders

• Partner with Product, SDET, and Design on story shaping and acceptance.
• Coordinate with peer squads, architects, and vendors on integrations and dependencies.
  
  

Qualifications (Academic, Training, Languages)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Fluent in English Language
• Expert-level proficiency in native Android development with Kotlin (Java where required), the Android SDK, and Jetpack (Compose, coroutines, and architecture components).
• Strong grounding in testing (unit, instrumentation, UI, and end-to-end).
• Able to diagnose performance, reliability, and security issues across the stack
• Working knowledge of mobile observability and crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, or equivalent).
• Good understanding of secure coding and OWASP Mobile practices.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrates ownership and consistent delivery against squad KPIs.
• Proficient in MS Office.
  
  

Work Experience

• With 6 - 8 years of software engineering experience with a strong record of native Android delivery and owning apps in production. Travel, airline, or transactional/e-commerce platform experience is preferred.
• Strong experience integrating REST and GraphQL APIs, offline-first data, local persistence (Room/SQLite), background work, and push notifications.
• Hands-on experience with mobile CI/CD, automated build and test, and Google Play release management.
