About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced accountant with deep knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance. You will manage a portfolio of clients end-to-end — from day-to-day bookkeeping through to the preparation and review of complex group tax returns. You will work closely with our Australian-based directors and serve as a trusted technical resource for the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end accounting for a portfolio of Australian business clients, from bookkeeping and bank reconciliations through to financial statement preparation.
- Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs).
- Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, and FBT returns in compliance with ATO requirements.
- Lead the preparation and review of large, complex group tax structures including consolidated groups and related-party arrangements.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and advise clients on structuring, compliance, and risk management.
- Liaise directly with clients to gather information, resolve queries, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Mentor and review the work of junior team members, maintaining quality standards across the practice.
- Stay current with changes to Australian tax legislation, ATO rulings, and AASB accounting standards.
- Assist directors with research, technical memos, and client-specific advisory projects as required.
Skills & Experience Essential
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Australian public accounting / business services.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Australian taxation law including income tax, GST, FBT, CGT, and superannuation.
- Proven experience preparing and reviewing complex group and consolidated tax returns.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian accounting standards (AASB) and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency with Xero and AccountKit — both are used extensively at Insight Tax Partners.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy across all deliverables.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with Australian clients.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
Highly Regarded
- CA or CPA qualified (or equivalent international qualification).
- Experience with BGL Simple Fund 360 for SMSF administration and compliance.
- Experience with SMSF administration more broadly.
- Exposure to R&D tax incentive claims or state-based payroll tax.
- Prior experience in a remote or offshore accounting role servicing Australian clients.
