Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Semiconductor Plant Design:
  • Lead the design and layout of semiconductor manufacturing facilities, ensuring that the plant meets operational requirements and complies with industry standards (e.g., ISO, GMP).
  • Develop detailed floor plans, electrical, mechanical, and utility systems designs, and ensure proper integration of critical facilities like clean rooms, process areas, and support systems.
  • Plan and design efficient material flow and logistics within the plant to ensure high throughput, minimal downtime, and optimal space utilization.
  • Process & Equipment Planning:
  • Collaborate with semiconductor engineers to understand process needs and design layouts that align with manufacturing workflows, such as wafer fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging.
  • Specify, select, and plan for the installation of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including photolithography, etching, deposition, and testing tools.
  • Manage and coordinate equipment specifications, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Project Management & Execution:
  • Develop comprehensive project timelines and budgets for the construction and expansion of semiconductor manufacturing plants.
  • Lead the planning and execution of facility construction, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Work with external contractors, vendors, and suppliers to manage construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate and track the progress of plant development, addressing any technical, operational, or supply chain challenges that arise.
  • Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS):
  • Ensure that the design and construction of the semiconductor facility adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Incorporate clean room design standards and manage air handling, filtration, humidity control, and other critical environmental controls to maintain semiconductor manufacturing conditions.
  • Implement energy-efficient design solutions to minimize plant environmental impact.
  • Optimization & Maintenance:
  • Develop strategies for ongoing optimization and maintenance of the semiconductor plant to maximize efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Implement systems to monitor and assess equipment performance, uptime, and productivity.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring that production targets and operational costs are met or exceeded.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
  • Work closely with R&D, operations, quality control, and other teams to ensure that facility design supports both production and research activities.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management and other stakeholders regarding project status, risks, and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams involved in the plant design and planning process.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • Experience:
  • 15+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing plant design, planning, or operations.
  • Proven experience in the design and construction of semiconductor fabrication or assembly plants, clean rooms, or similar high-tech manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor production processes (e.g., wafer fabrication, photolithography, etching, deposition, packaging).
  • Hands-on experience in managing large-scale, capital-intensive projects from concept through execution.
  • Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, clean room environments, and HVAC systems.
  • Experience with layout design tools, CAD software, and facility design programs.
  • Strong understanding of environmental controls, power systems, water management, and other critical infrastructure requirements for semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor plant certification standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 14644 for clean rooms, EHS standards).
  • Project Management:
  • Expertise in project management methodologies and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Strong track record of managing large-scale construction and equipment installation projects.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, especially in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with semiconductor wafer fab expansions or greenfield facility setups.
  • Expertise in automation systems for semiconductor plants.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable facility design practices.
  • Familiarity with advanced semiconductor technologies like 3D ICs, MEMS, or photonics.
