Job Description

Purpose of the Role:

Purpose of the role of section head spinning R&D is to assist HOD-Spinning R&D in achieving the following objectives:

  • Quality Management of particular unit / section in a spinning division.
  • Quality assurance/monitoring of quality at raw material, in-process & finished goods stage.
  • To plan & organize process development studies.
  • To report the quality status to HOD on day to day basis.
  • Customer complaint handling.
  • To assist in documentation required for various audits by customer or external agencies.
  • Man power management & to ensure proper training of each individuals.

Role & responsibilities

Planning & Development:

  • Understand potential risks in meeting stipulated quality levels based on internal capabilities and consult with HOD-Spinning R&D for necessary precautions / actions.
  • Manpower planning for assigned section / unit to ensure all required quality control activities / schedule adherence.
  • To prioritize / planning of routine / non routine testing or audit activities according to department or product requirement.
  • To review / update test methods, sample size and testing frequencies.

Raw Material & Lab Management:

  • To ensure sampling and testing of incoming raw materials & packaging material within stipulated time.
  • Data compilation related to raw material & packaging material and reporting to HOD-Spinning R&D.
  • To ensure proper data management of all test results and other activities in R&D through computerisation
  • To ensure proper maintenance & calibration of all R&D equipments including packing material testing instruments.

Quality Control & Troubleshooting:

  • To consult HOD in routine for recommendations about production processes or technical changes while starting new products and advise to production/maintenance teams to implement.
  • To study and analyse test reports & suggest necessary corrective actions wherever required.
  • Analyse the reason for quality deviations / customer complaints and to visit customer in order to understand their requirement & quality issues.
  • To ensure timely availability of periodical reports like monthly MIS reports, half yearly/annual review reports, capital/revenue budget proposals etc.
  • To ensure compliance of running GRS / ORGANIC / FAIRTRADE / BCI cotton right from raw material stage to packing as per specified standards. .
  • Maintain detailed quality control over the quality of work in progress, finished and packaged products in order to ensure that product specifications are as per agreed quality standards and customer requirements. In case of non-compliances, same brought to the notice of HOD-spinning R&D
  • In cases of customer complaints, interact with customers / concerned marketing person to understand the issue in detail and provide technical expertise / suggestions to marketing or customer after consultation with HOD-spinning R&D as well as ensuring preventive actions in operations.
  • For all incidents of quality non-compliance, collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.

Product Development:

  • For new products or non-standard products, evaluate product feasibility by assessing the customer requirements vis-à-vis internal process capabilities.
  • Execution of product trials and sample production in order to understand process and other resource (raw material etc.) challenges and constraints in meeting the desired customer requirements and communicate the overall feasibility to the sales & marketing department after discussion with HOD-Spinning R&D.

Process Control, Development and Innovation:

  • Development of audit guidelines and execution of periodic process audits in consultation with HOD-spinning R&D to ensure that process parameters are as per standard procedures for the product.
  • Conceptualize and drive operational excellence initiatives such as TPM, Kaizen, Quality Circles etc

Performance Management & Team Development:

  • Responsible for goal setting, periodic performance review, performance appraisal and performance feedback of sub-ordinates.
  • To take feedback from subordinates and to develop them through training & counselling.
  • Arrange proper training of all staff & workmen for activities like TPM, QC, Safety etc.

Educational Qualifications:

B. Tech in textile technology

M. Tech in textile technology
