Job Description- Senior SEO Specialist

Role Overview

The Senior SEO Expert will own Adventures Overland's entire organic search strategy from

technical foundations and content optimization to AI-era SEO, voice search, and generative

engine optimization (GEO). You will work cross-functionally with content, design, and

development teams to maximize our visibility across Google Search, AI Overviews, SGE, and

emerging search surfaces. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role for a search

professional who thrives at the intersection of creativity and data.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term SEO roadmap aligned with business goals and revenue targets.

Monitor Google algorithm updates (including Helpful Content Updates, Core Updates, spam policies) and adapt strategies accordingly.

Lead competitive analysis to identify gaps, opportunities, and keyword positioning across key travel markets.

AI & Next-Gen SEO

Optimize content for Google's AI Overviews (formerly SGE) and ensure featured snippet and zero-click search presence.

Implement Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies to appear in AI generated responses (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.).

Leverage AI-powered SEO tools (e.g., Surfer SEO, Clearscope, MarketMuse, SEOwind) to scale content optimization workflows.

Build E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) frameworks across all web properties.

Technical SEO

Conduct comprehensive technical audits covering Core Web Vitals, crawlability, indexation, schema markup, and site architecture.

Implement and optimize structured data (JSON-LD) for travel-specific schema:

TouristTrip, FAQPage, HowTo, BreadcrumbList, etc.

Manage XML sitemaps, robots.txt, canonical tags, hreflang, and log file analysis.

Collaborate with development teams on site speed optimization, mobile-first indexing, and JavaScript SEO.

Content & On-Page SEO

Develop and execute topical authority maps and content cluster strategies for Adventures Overland's key destinations and trip categories.

Optimize landing pages, travel guides, itineraries, and blog content for target keywords and user intent.

Lead keyword research for long-tail, conversational, and People Also Ask (PAA) opportunities.

Guide the content team on SEO-first writing practices, meta-data optimization, and internal linking strategy.

Off-Page & Digital PR

Design and execute white-hat link-building campaigns, digital PR outreach, and brand mention strategies.

Manage disavow files and maintain a clean, high-quality backlink profile.

Build relationships with travel media, bloggers, and authoritative travel platforms for editorial link acquisition.

Analytics & Reporting

Own SEO reporting dashboards using Google Search Console, GA4, Looker Studio, and third-party tools.

Set up conversion tracking, attribution models, and KPI dashboards to measure organic search ROI.

Provide monthly performance reports with insights, trends, and actionable recommendations to leadership.

Required Qualifications

Experience

5- 7 years of hands-on SEO experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.

Proven track record of driving measurable organic growth (traffic, rankings, and revenue) for travel, e-commerce, or content-heavy websites.

Deep experience managing SEO for multi-page, multi-locale websites with international audiences.

Technical Skills

Expert proficiency with: Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, Moz, and/or Majestic.

Strong command of HTML, CSS basics, and JavaScript SEO fundamentals (rendering, lazy loading, SPAs).

Hands-on experience with CMS platforms: WordPress, Webflow, or custom CMS environments.

Familiarity with log file analysis tools (e.g., Splunk, Kibana) and crawl data interpretation.

AI & Emerging Search Knowledge

Current knowledge of Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE/AI Overviews), including optimization approaches.

Understanding of LLM-based search engines and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) principles.

Experience using AI writing and SEO tools to streamline content production at scale.

Understanding of voice search optimization and conversational query intent mapping.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with a hypothesis-driven approach to SEO.

Excellent written and verbal communication able to present SEO strategy clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Self-starter mentality; comfortable owning projects end-to-end with minimal supervision.

Collaborative team player who can work across content, product, and engineering teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

Experience with travel, hospitality, or adventure/outdoor industry SEO.

Knowledge of local SEO, Google Business Profile optimization, and multi-location strategy.

Experience with programmatic SEO and large-scale content automation.

Familiarity with Python or Google Apps Script for SEO automation and data analysis.

Google Analytics 4 Individual Qualification, Google Search Ads, or other relevant certifications.
