Scrum Master - Data Governance

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master to support Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Data Operations teams. This role will facilitate Agile delivery while ensuring strong governance, operational excellence, and alignment with enterprise data standards. The Scrum Master will act as a servant leader, removing impediments, improving delivery predictability, and partnering closely with Product Owners, Data Engineers, and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Agile / Scrum Delivery

Facilitate Scrum ceremonies: Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives

Coach data teams on Agile best practices and continuous improvement

Ensure sprint commitments are realistic and aligned with capacity

Track and report sprint metrics (velocity, burn-down, predictability)

Support dependency management across data, platform, and upstream/downstream teams

Data Governance Enablement

Partner with Data Governance, Security, and Compliance teams to ensure governance requirements are embedded into Agile delivery

Ensure stories include governance aspects such as:

Data quality checks

Metadata management

Access controls and entitlement reviews

Audit and regulatory requirements

Promote Definition of Done (DoD) that includes governance and compliance standards

Support documentation and traceability for data lineage and controls

Data Operations & Reliability

Coordinate operational work including:

Production support

Incident management

Data pipeline monitoring and remediation

Help balance BAU operational work vs. sprint commitments

Track operational SLAs, incidents, and root cause analysis (RCA)

Support release coordination, patching, and change management for data platforms

Improve operational processes through Agile practices and automation

Stakeholder Collaboration

Act as a bridge between Data Engineering, Data Operations, Governance, Product, and Business stakeholders

Communicate delivery status, risks, and dependencies clearly

Support PI Planning / Quarterly Planning where applicable

Align work intake through tools such as Rally, Jira, or Azure DevOps

Continuous Improvement

Identify and drive improvements in team flow, quality, and delivery efficiency

Promote Agile maturity and adoption across data teams

Facilitate retrospectives with actionable outcomes

Support metrics-driven decision-making (cycle time, lead time, throughput)

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Delivery Lead

Strong experience supporting Data Engineering, Analytics, or Platform teams

Solid understanding of data governance, data quality, and compliance concepts

Hands-on experience with Agile tools such as Rally, Jira, or Azure DevOps

Experience working with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, GCP preferred)

Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
