Scrum Master

Purpose of Position

This position plays the role of Scrum Master in an Agile software development environment for company software products. The main purpose of the role is to ensure the continuous flow of work in a software team, while driving continuous improvement of velocity and quality.

Key Responsibilities

70% Proactively watch and ensure flow

Proactively watch team's backlog to ensure a continuous flow of work ready to execute, hold Product Owner accountable to that.

Proactively spot wait times or impediments and own resolution of those, drive to outcome, ball stops here mindset.

10% Facilitate Software Team Process

Feature Dev Teams (Scrum)

Facilitate and coach Scrum and SAFe PI planning / Release Planning as applicable.

Ensure that the Feature Complete checklist is done before completing the project/solution.

Sustaining Team (Kanban), EMV Cert Issues Team (Kanban), or Feature Dev Teams when they own quality issues

Facilitate and coach through kanban and Daily Standups

Ensure that the team is meeting the defined SLA and improving productivity.

Other Scrum Teams

Facilitate and coach Scrum.

Own team's date commitments and reporting, proactively watch progress vs commitment. When off track, own countermeasures and their outcome (ball stops here).

20% Continuous improvement of team velocity and quality

Feature Dev Teams (Scrum)

Track team's velocity and quality, drive retrospectives and continuous improvement on those; velocity is expected to increase, while quality misses are expected to decrease over time.

Sustaining Team (Kanban), EMV Cert Issues Team (Kanban), or Feature Dev Teams when they own quality issues

Track team's SLA, drive retrospectives and continuous improvement

Other Scrum Teams

Track team's output, drive retrospectives and continuous improvement on those

Relationships

Daily interaction with developers, testers, product owners, architects, software managers, Release Management and PMO.

Frequent interaction with Marketing, Sales, Service, Field Support, customers, and 3rd parties.

Interaction with any areas of the Company as required to resolve impediments.

Measures of Performance

For Scrum teams

o Delivery on time with no rework

o Completed vs Committed improvement over time

o Quality misses decreasing over time

For Kanban Teams

o Delivery on time with no rework

o Meet defined SLA

Background and Skill

Required:

Strong experience as Scrum Master, Release Train Engineer, team lead, or team coaching responsibilities

Total Experience in years: 3-5 of scrum master role

Preferred:

Certified Scrum Master (CSM)/Professional Scrum Master (PSM I)/ Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

Bachelor's degree

Experience in the Retail industry, electronic payment systems, and/or Point-Of-Sale systems

Companies in Background: Dresser Wayne, Tokheim, Radiant, Retalix, Verifone, IBM

Experience with Jira, Excel, Miro
