Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (SACCS) Support Nurse

Join Scotland's National Congenital Cardiac service and help shape lifelong care.

Are you an experienced, compassionate and motivated nurse looking to specialise in congenital cardiac care We're looking for a SACCS Support Nurse to join our nationally designated Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (SACCS)a unique role supporting adults living with congenital heart disease across Scotland.

You'll work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, supporting patients through diagnostic, interventional and surgical pathways, ensuring they receive safe, effective and personcentred care at every stage of their journey.

You'll work closely with the Adult Congenital Nurse Specialist team and have exposure to specialist MDT environments, with opportunities to develop advanced assessment and leadership skills.

What You'll Do

Champion PersonCentred Care

  • Provide holistic, evidencebased nursing care for adults with congenital cardiac conditions.
  • Deliver pre and postprocedural support, ensuring patients and families fully understand their pathway.
  • Maintain compassionate communication with patients awaiting surgery, helping them prepare and cope with uncertainty.
  • Tailor information and support to each patient's lifestyle, background and clinical needs.

Drive Safety and Quality

  • Monitor clinical status of patients on the surgical waiting list, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • You will assist in the delivery of care to a wide variety of Congenital patients on varying pathways
  • Support the coordination of appointments, investigations, tests and preoperative planning.
  • Maintain meticulous documentationclinical notes, databases and communication systems.
  • Adhere to NMC, NHS and local governance frameworks, including participation in audits and quality improvement.

Advance Clinical Effectiveness

  • Contribute to MDT discussions regarding surgical and interventional suitability.
  • Support clinical audit, research activity and practice improvement within SACCS.
  • Help deliver education to patients, families and staff, ensuring uptodate, evidencebased information is shared.
  • Develop your own skills through continuing education, specialist courses and advanced assessment opportunities.

Shape Service Pathways and Support Workforce Development

  • Deputise for the Senior Congenital Nurse Specialist during periods of absence.
  • Support junior staff with prioritisation, planning and safe decisionmaking.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting a collaborative, compassionate and personcentred culture.
  • Contribute to policy development, service evolution and the wider congenital cardiac strategy.
  • Work as part of the wider SACCS team supporting clinics and ensuring effective communication between the wider services.

About You

You will be an empathetic, skilled and organised nurse who is passionate about improving outcomes for adults with congenital heart disease. You will have:

Essential

  • Current NMC registration (1st/2nd level).
  • Significant postregistration experience in cardiology, cardiac surgery or congenital heart disease.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work autonomously and escalate appropriately in a dynamic service.
  • Understanding of NMC ethical/legal frameworks and patient confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to meet service demands.

Desirable

  • Experience with NHS clinical systems (e.g. TrakCare, Clinical Portal).
  • Experience coordinating complex patient pathways or MDT communication.
  • Interest in developing advanced assessment skills (with support available).
