Job Title: Scientist – Protein Purification Team, NBE
Job summary
- Responsible for planning and executing protein purification and characterization experiments to support molecule screening and evaluation.
- Conducts hands-on laboratory work, analyzes and interprets data, and presents results in required data management formats.
- Ensures high standards of data integrity, safety, quality, and compliance while contributing to scientific innovation, process improvement, and platform development.
Key responsibilities
- Design purification strategies based on protein class, structural features, biochemical properties, literature precedent, and existing SOPs.
- Execute purification workflows hands-on, perform troubleshooting, and optimize conditions to achieve project-specific quality and turnaround requirements.
- Analyze and interpret protein characterization data to support molecule evaluation and progression decisions.
- Maintain complete and traceable records in accordance with ALCOA+ principles and internal quality standards.
- Contribute to laboratory upkeep, training of new team members, and scientific knowledge-sharing activities.
Key technical requirements
- Downstream processing and protein purification.
- AKTA-based chromatography and selection of appropriate chromatographic methods for different protein modalities.
- Protein characterization, including purity assessment, mass spectrometry interpretation, stability profiling, and physicochemical analysis.
- Purification and handling of challenging targets especially membrane proteins, GPCRs, multi-subunit proteins, and endofree proteins.
- Inclusion body solubilization and refolding.
- Process scale-up to gram quantities.
- Bio-conjugation methods, including cysteine conjugation, lysine conjugation, and linker-based strategies.
Desirable:
Experience in protein crystallization would be desirable.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline.
- 2-7 years of experience in protein sciences with a strong focus on purification and characterization.
- Strong grounding in protein structure-function relationships, analytical interpretation, and experimental troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of safety, quality, and compliance expectations in a discovery laboratory environment.
