A Librarian in an IB school is not just a custodian of books but a learning facilitator and information literacy leader who supports inquiry-based learning across PYP, MYP, and DP programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Library Management
- Manage and organize print and digital library resources (books, journals, e-resources, databases)
- Maintain cataloguing, classification, circulation, and inventory systems
- Ensure smooth functioning of library software and digital tools
2. Student Learning Support
- Guide students in research, inquiry, and independent learning
- Teach information literacy, citation skills, and ethical use of sources (plagiarism awareness)
- Support IB Extended Essay, Internal Assessments, and research projects
3. Collaboration with Teachers
- Work closely with IB teachers to integrate library resources into Units of Inquiry
- Co-plan research-based assignments and reading programmes
- Support cross-curricular learning and ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills
4. Reading Culture Development
- Promote reading habits through book clubs, reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and author interactions
- Curate age-appropriate and IB-aligned reading lists
5. Digital & Research Support
- Manage e-library platforms and digital databases
- Train students and staff in effective research strategies and online resource usage
6. Administrative & Compliance
- Budgeting and procurement of library resources
- Maintain records, reports, and library policies
- Ensure copyright compliance and ethical resource usage
Prerequisites / Eligibility Criteria
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / B.Lib.I.Sc.)
- Preferably Master's in Library Science (M.Lib / M.Lib.I.Sc.)
- Additional qualification in Education is an advantage
Experience:
- 2–5 years of experience as a school librarian (IB or international curriculum preferred)
- Experience with digital libraries and library management systems (LMS)
Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of IB philosophy (inquiry-based learning)
- Excellent research and information literacy skills
- Proficiency in ICT tools and digital cataloguing systems
- Strong communication and student engagement skills
- Ability to collaborate with faculty across PYP/MYP/DP levels
Desirable Attributes:
- Familiarity with databases like JSTOR, Britannica, EBSCO, etc.
- Experience supporting Extended Essay (EE) and academic research
- Passion for reading culture development in children and adolescents
- Organizational and documentation skills
