Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Scaffolder role based in Chennai. The Scaffolder will erect, modify, and dismantle scaffolding structures on ships and in shipyard areas to support mechanical, electrical, and outfitting work. Daily tasks include interpreting drawings, measuring and cutting materials, assembling scaffolding components, and ensuring all structures are secure and compliant with safety standards. The role involves working at height and in confined spaces, inspecting scaffolds regularly, and reporting any hazards or defects. The Scaffolder will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and safety teams to plan access solutions that support ongoing shipbuilding and repair activities.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in scaffolding systems, including erecting, modifying, and dismantling various scaffold types in a shipyard or industrial environment.
  • Competence in Working at Height and use of Fall Protection equipment, with a strong focus on safe access and egress on vessels.
  • Experience working in Confined Space environments, following permit-to-work procedures and safety protocols.
  • Valid CSCS or equivalent construction/shipyard safety certification, or willingness to obtain it within a defined timeframe.
  • Basic understanding of shipyard operations and coordination with mechanical, electrical, and outfitting teams is an advantage.
  • Ability to read and follow basic technical drawings, layout plans, and verbal instructions.
  • Good physical fitness, manual dexterity, and ability to handle tools and materials safely over extended periods.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, punctuality, and professional conduct on site.
  • Previous experience as a Scaffolder in marine, construction, or industrial projects is preferred; relevant vocational training or apprenticeship is beneficial.
