The SAP SOM role is responsible for the end-to-end management of subscription orders and contracts within the SAP BRIM suite. This involves understanding complex business requirements for subscription-based services, translating them into functional designs, configuring the SAP SOM module, and ensuring seamless integration with other SAP and non-SAP systems. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise to optimize business processes, improve customer satisfaction, and drive revenue growth for subscription models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Requirements Gathering & Analysis:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand and document complex business requirements related to subscription order management, product bundling, pricing, and contract lifecycle.
- Perform gap analysis between business needs and standard SAP SOM functionalities, proposing appropriate solutions or workarounds.
- Solution Design & Configuration:
- Design, configure, and implement SAP SOM modules to support subscription business models (e.g., recurring billing, usage-based billing, one-off charges).
- Configure key SOM functionalities like product master data, cross-catalog mapping, solution quotations, subscription orders, and subscription contracts.
- Set up and manage product configuration using Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC) for complex product bundles.
- Define and maintain pricing strategies within SOM, integrating with SAP Convergent Charging (CC) and Convergent Invoicing (CI).
- Integration:
- Ensure seamless integration of SAP SOM with other SAP BRIM components (Convergent Charging (CC), Convergent Invoicing (CI)/FICA, Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable (FI-CA), Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR)).
- Integrate SOM with other SAP modules (e.g., SAP SD, CRM, S/4HANA, MM, FI) and external systems (e.g., CRM, e-commerce platforms, payment gateways) using various integration technologies (e.g., PI/PO, CPI, APIs).
- Manage and troubleshoot integration issues.
- Testing & Support:
- Develop and execute test scripts (unit testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), regression testing) to ensure the configured solution meets business requirements.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for SAP SOM processes, including resolving production issues, performance tuning, and assisting with enhancements and upgrades.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to SOM configuration, master data, and integrations.
- Documentation & Training:
- Create detailed functional specifications, process flows (e.g., in Visio), business design documents (BDDs), process definition documents (PDDs), and business process procedures (BPPs).
- Prepare training materials and conduct training sessions for end-users.
- Project Management & Collaboration:
- Participate in project meetings, provide regular updates to stakeholders, and manage project backlogs.
- Work collaboratively with other functional consultants, technical consultants (ABAP developers), project managers, and offshore teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Adhere to project methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, SAP Activate).
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with the latest SAP BRIM SOM module releases, new functionalities, industry best practices, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, revenue recognition principles).
- Proactively identify opportunities for optimization and improvement within existing processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Proven experience (typically 4+ years, often 6-8+ for senior roles) in SAP BRIM SOM implementation, integration, and support projects.
- Minimum of one end-to-end SAP BRIM SOM implementation experience, integrating with SAP CC and CI.
- Strong hands-on experience in configuring SAP CRM/SD modules is often beneficial.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA Subscription Order Management module is highly preferred; experience with SAP CRM Subscription Order Management module is an acceptable substitute.
- Technical Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of SAP BRIM (Billing and Revenue Innovation Management) and specifically Subscription Order Management (SOM).
- Strong understanding of SOM processes, including master data setup, product modeling, cross-catalog mapping, Order Distribution Infrastructure (ODI), and SD pricing for recurring and one-off charges.
- Familiarity with SAP Convergent Charging (CC) and Convergent Invoicing (CI)/FICA.
- Knowledge of various pricing models and product configuration (e.g., Advanced Variant Configuration).
- Basic understanding of SAP SD and FICO/FI-CA modules is often required.
- Experience with BRF+ is a plus.
- Familiarity with integration technologies (e.g., SAP PI/PO, CPI, APIs) and enterprise integration patterns.
