SALT Associate (India)
Focus: U.S. State & Local Tax Registrations (with Licensing Support)
Job Description
We are seeking a detail‑oriented SALT Associate based in India to support U.S.‑based clients with state and local tax registrations and related compliance activities. This role works as part of a global compliance function and supports the accurate and timely setup of tax accounts across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
The position is registration‑focused, with some administrative support for business licensing. Prior licensing experience is helpful but not required. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys structured, process‑driven work, values accuracy, and works effectively within documented workflows.
This is an in‑office role based in India.
Key Responsibilities
- Support U.S. state and local tax registrations, including assisting with account setup and coordination with state and local taxing agencies (e.g., Departments of Revenue and similar authorities)
- Gather, prepare, and submit registration‑related information in accordance with established processes and agency requirements
- Provide administrative support for business licensing activities as needed, including data collection, documentation tracking, and internal coordination
- Follow established SOPs, checklists, and internal workflows to complete work accurately and consistently
- Maintain clear and organized documentation and provide status updates in internal tracking systems
- Collaborate with India‑based and U.S.‑based team members as part of the compliance function
- Participate in training and apply learned processes to ongoing registration and compliance support work
- Once trained and comfortable in the role, support cross‑training efforts for other departments or compliance functions as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in U.S. tax compliance, regulatory compliance, or related support roles
- Familiarity with the concept of U.S. tax registrations (establishing accounts with government agencies prior to filing)
- Exposure to business licensing or regulatory permits is helpful but not required
- Experience supporting CPA firms, accounting firms, or compliance service providers preferred
- Comfortable working with structured processes, documentation, and repeatable workflows
