Engineer is a hybrid technical and commercial professional who sells complex scientific, IT, or manufacturing products to businesses. They act as the technical backbone of the sales team, translating complex product features into clear business benefits to close deals and secure technical buy-in.Their daily roles and responsibilities are broken down into several core areas:1. Pre-Sales & Technical PresentationsProduct Demos: Arrange and deliver customized, high-stakes presentations and technical demonstrations to prospective clients.Discovery & Needs Analysis: Work alongside Account Executives to identify customer pain points and outline how the company's technology can provide measurable ROI.Handling Objections: Answer complex, challenging technical questions and clearly explain a product's technical specifications and limitations.2. Proposal Generation & Solution DesignCustomizing Solutions: Help clients who have specific operational constraints by developing design alternatives and customized product configurations.Costing & Estimating: Prepare detailed cost-benefit analyses, price quotes, and technical specifications for RFQs (Requests for Quote).Proof of Concept (PoC): Set up technical trials, system deployments, or PoCs to prove to the customer that the product meets their expectations.3. Cross-Functional CollaborationBridging Sales and Engineering: Serve as the crucial link between the customer and internal R&D/engineering teams to ensure product-market fit.Sharing Client Feedback: Relay market requirements, troubleshooting issues, and feature requests to upper management and product development.Internal Training: Educate the broader sales team and train them on the technical aspects of new products and services.4. Post-Sales Support & Account ManagementTechnical Troubleshooting: Assist customers who run into problems with newly installed hardware, software, or machinery.Onboarding & Training: Conduct technical onboarding and training for the client's internal staff to ensure successful product adoption.Relationship Building: Maintain long-term relationships with existing customers to identify opportunities for upselling or contract renewals.
