Job Purpose

The Sales Engineer / Sales Manager is responsible for driving business growth by developing new customers and managing existing accounts for the Company's CNC Precision Engineering, Contract Manufacturing,Mechanical Assembly, and Supply Chain Management (SCM) services. The role combines technical engineering knowledge with commercial expertise to provide integrated manufacturing and procurement solutions that meet customer requirements while achieving sales and profitability targets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in CNC Precision Engineering, Contract Manufacturing, Mechanical Assembly, MRO, and Supply Chain Management services.
  • Expand the Company's customer base within the Oil & Gas, Energy, Offshore & Marine, Aerospace, Semiconductor, Medical Device, Electronics, Industrial Equipment, and General Manufacturing industries.
  • Develop and execute annual sales and business development plans to achieve revenue and profit objectives.
  • Identify strategic partnerships and long-term supply agreements with key customers.
  • Attend customer meetings, exhibitions, networking events, and industry conferences to promote the Company's capabilities.

2. Account Management

  • Manage and grow relationships with existing customers through regular engagement.
  • Act as the primary commercial contact for assigned customer accounts.
  • Understand customer manufacturing, procurement, inventory, and supply chain requirements.
  • Conduct periodic business reviews to identify cost-saving and value-added opportunities.
  • Resolve commercial, delivery, and service-related issues promptly.

3. Technical Sales Support

  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOM), and customer requirements.
  • Recommend suitable manufacturing methods, machining processes, materials, tolerances, and finishing options.
  • Provide value engineering solutions to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining quality.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Production, and Quality departments during quotation and project execution.
  • Support prototype development, first article production, and engineering change implementation.

4. Quotation & Cost Estimation

  • Prepare detailed quotations covering CNC machining, fabrication, assembly, inspection, material supply, subcontract processes, logistics, and supply chain services.
  • Estimate machining cycle times, material costs, tooling costs, subcontracting expenses, logistics costs, and project profitability.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, contracts, and delivery schedules with customers.
  • Follow up on quotations to maximize order conversion rates.
  • Maintain quotation records and pricing databases.

5. Supply Chain & Procurement Solutions

  • Promote the Company's supply chain management, procurement outsourcing, inventory management, vendor-managed inventory (VMI), and MRO sourcing services.
  • Identify customer opportunities for supplier consolidation, cost reduction, and procurement optimization.
  • Coordinate the sourcing of highly specific raw materials, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, inserts, industrial equipment, mechanical components, electrical items, fasteners, and shop floor consumables.
  • Work closely with Procurement to obtain competitive pricing, reliable lead times, and qualified suppliers.
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives and long-term supply agreements.
  • Ensure purchased products comply with customer specifications, certifications, and quality requirements.

6. Project & Order Management

  • Coordinate customer orders from enquiry through quotation, order confirmation, production, inspection, delivery, and after-sales support.
  • Monitor project schedules and ensure customer delivery commitments are achieved.
  • Coordinate engineering changes, revision control, and customer approvals.
  • Liaise with Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, and Logistics to resolve project issues.

7. Customer Service & After-Sales Support

  • Provide prompt responses to customer enquiries and technical questions.
  • Coordinate resolution of customer complaints, warranty claims, and non-conformance issues.
  • Conduct customer satisfaction surveys and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain long-term customer relationships through proactive communication and support.

8. Market Intelligence

  • Monitor industry trends, market developments, competitor activities, and customer purchasing patterns.
  • Identify new products, manufacturing technologies, and supply chain opportunities.
  • Recommend new business strategies and market expansion initiatives.

9. Sales Planning & Reporting

  • Prepare annual sales budgets, forecasts, and business development plans.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, customer visit reports, quotation status, and sales pipelines.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly sales performance reports.
  • Monitor sales KPIs and recommend improvement actions.

10. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Procurement, Warehouse, Logistics, Finance, and Quality departments to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Participate in production planning meetings and customer project reviews.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to support customer delivery schedules.

11. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all quotations, contracts, and customer orders comply with Company policies and customer requirements.
  • Support ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements, including contract review and customer communication.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer drawings, specifications, pricing, and proprietary information.
  • Ensure compliance with export controls, contractual obligations, and applicable regulations.

12. Team Leadership (For Sales Manager)

  • Lead and mentor the Sales and Business Development team.
  • Assign customer accounts and sales territories.
  • Monitor individual and team sales performance.
  • Conduct coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop succession plans and identify opportunities for employee development.

Authority

The Sales Engineer / Sales Manager is authorized to:

  • Prepare and submit quotations within approved pricing limits.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and delivery schedules within delegated authority.
  • Coordinate customer projects across Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and Quality.
  • Recommend pricing strategies, customer discounts, and long-term supply agreements for Management approval.
  • Recommend new suppliers, strategic partners, and business opportunities.

Qualifications

  • ITE, Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical sales, business development, CNC precision engineering, contract manufacturing, or industrial supply chain management.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining, engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing processes, materials, procurement, inventory management, and supply chain operations.
  • Experience in quotation preparation, cost estimation, contract negotiation, and key account management.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, CRM software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, analytical, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify profitable business opportunities.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally for customer visits, supplier meetings, and business development activities.
