Qualification: Diploma / B.E./B.Tech in Engineering with Diploma/Certification in Industrial Safety or equivalent

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment across our manufacturing plant. The role will be responsible for implementing and monitoring EHS policies, safety procedures, statutory requirements, risk-control measures, and safety awareness programs across plant operations. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in industrial/manufacturing safety, preferably within the Iron & Steel industry, with strong knowledge of shop-floor safety practices and the ability to work closely with production, maintenance, projects, and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and monitor company EHS policies, safety standards, and procedures across the plant.
  • Conduct regular plant safety inspections, safety audits, and workplace risk assessments.
  • Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessment, HIRA, and safety observations for various activities.
  • Monitor compliance with Permit to Work (PTW) systems, including hot work, work at height, confined space, electrical work, excavation, and other high-risk activities.
  • Ensure proper implementation of PPE requirements and safe working practices at the workplace.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety inductions, training programs, and awareness sessions for employees, contractors, and new joiners.
  • Monitor contractor safety and ensure compliance with company safety requirements.
  • Support incident/accident investigation, root-cause analysis, and preparation of corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Maintain records and reports related to accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, safety observations, inspections, and training.
  • Monitor emergency preparedness and participate in mock drills, fire safety drills, and emergency response activities.
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Projects, HR, and other departments to ensure effective implementation of safety standards.
  • Ensure safe practices during plant maintenance, shutdowns, projects, equipment installation, and construction activities.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable Factories Act, Rules, statutory EHS requirements, and company safety standards.
  • Assist in safety audits and statutory inspections and ensure closure of audit observations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and zero-accident mindset across the organization.
  • Ensure proper reporting and escalation of critical safety violations and unsafe practices to management.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of Industrial Safety and EHS practices.
  • Knowledge of HIRA, JSA, Risk Assessment, PTW, LOTO, PPE, and safety audits.
  • Knowledge of working-at-height, confined-space, hot-work, electrical, lifting, and material-handling safety.
  • Basic knowledge of fire prevention and emergency response systems.
  • Strong incident investigation and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct safety training and toolbox talks effectively.
  • Strong shop-floor presence and ability to enforce safety procedures.
  • Good documentation, reporting, and MIS skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with employees, contractors, and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Industry Experience:

Candidates with experience in Iron & Steel, Manufacturing, CGL, CCL, CRM, HRM, Pickling, Utilities, Rolling Mill, Steel Processing, or similar heavy-industry operations will be preferred.

Candidate Profile:

  • Hands-on experience in plant/shop-floor safety is preferred.
  • Candidates with experience handling contractor safety and project/maintenance safety will have an added advantage.
