Job Description

Robotics Competition Coach – WRO & VEX Full-Time | Mon–Sat, 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM | OMOTEC Delhi Branch

What we do

OMOTEC runs competitive robotics programs for students aged 6–18 across WRO, VEX IQ, VEX V5, and FTC. Every season is a new problem statement. Students design, build, program, and compete — regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our coaches aren't just instructors. They're the reason a team walks into an arena knowing their robot is ready.

What this role actually is

Your primary world is WRO and VEX — the competitions, the kits, the strategy, the students. You'll be building teams from scratch every season. That means taking a student who's never touched a LEGO brick competitively and turning them into someone who can read a game manual, plan a robot design, build it, program it, and defend their engineering decisions in front of judges.

Some days you're teaching a 10-year-old how to gear up a VEX IQ drivetrain. Other days you're working with a 17-year-old on VEX V5 autonomous strategy, figuring out why the robot keeps missing the scoring zone. The age range is wide. The energy required is consistent.

You'll go to competitions — city, state, nationals, and if the team earns it, international. That's not a perk. That's the job.

You should apply if:

  • You've worked with LEGO Education, Spike Prime, or EV3 kits — in a classroom, a coaching setup, or both
  • VEX IQ or VEX V5 competitions aren't new to you — you understand the kit, the game, the strategy
  • Block-based coding (LEGO Spike, VEXcode IQ Blocks) and GUI-based environments (VEXcode V5, ROBOTC) don't intimidate you
  • You've coached or trained students for WRO, VEX, or any structured robotics competition before
  • You enjoy the construction side as much as the coding side — building a clean, competition-legal robot is satisfying to you
  • You can explain the same concept five different ways until the right one lands

Experienced LEGO trainers and competition coaches are strongly encouraged to apply. You don't need to know everything on day one — structured on-the-job training will be provided for OMOTEC's curriculum and competition systems.

You should probably not apply if:

  • You've only taught robotics as a hobby activity with no competition context
  • You're not comfortable managing a room of students aged 8 to 17 at the same time
  • You think building with kit parts is less serious than custom fabrication

Competitions you'll be coaching: WRO (primary), VEX IQ (primary), VEX V5 (primary), FTC (secondary)

Platforms you'll work with: LEGO Spike Prime, LEGO EV3, VEX IQ, VEX V5, VEXcode Blocks, VEXcode GUI, ROBOTC, FTC basics

Qualifications: Engineering, Computer Science, Education, or any related background. What matters more than your degree is whether you've competed, coached, or built — and whether students respond to you.

Prior experience in WRO, VEX, or LEGO competition coaching will be given strong preference.
